Hi all

Ok, I have scaring to the tops of my arms and following a lot of weight loss, dreaded bingo wings. I am desperately looking for a product to cover my arms.

I found Flatter Me arms by M and S

But does anyone own one?

I can´t work out what size to go for????

Thanks

It's got 43 reviews you could look at, the most recent says to size up?

owlface · 28/10/2013 12:17

We used to do this at ballet school to keep our arms warm between classes - using old tights! Cut a hole in the gusset then put them on with the waistband under your bust and gusset as the neck hole.

ilikeFISH · 28/10/2013 13:45

Owlface.

Thanks for that, I have several of the old tights cut up things. Works really well but was looking for something possibly a little more decorative.

I did look at the review, but I can´t work out M and S sizing, i KNOW it should be easy but I wear a 14 to 16 but if I go on their bust measurement I should be in a 22. Which can not be right?

A nice Balero style cardi would work well.

ilikeFISH · 28/10/2013 14:11

Ok, I give up.

I have a load of boleros, cardi, jackets, blazers, scaves all sorts, but they are hot make it difficult to use my chrutes are not always appropriate.

I am so fed up and wearing layers in hot weather, heated offices / homes etc because I am covered in scars that are a daily reminder of how I was treated.

I guess no one else has this problem, so can´t really help. Was worth a try anyway.

I think the M&S one would work really well. You often find a nice dress and wish it wasn't sleeveless. I would wear this under several of my dresses and it would look nice.

If you are 14-16 from the reviews on the M&S website, I'd say go for a 16.

FunnyLittleFrog · 28/10/2013 14:26

I saw them in M&S today. They looked nice but small - if I was buying I'd size up.

ilikeFISH · 28/10/2013 14:36

THANK YOU,

I might order a 16 and an 18, worse case I´ll have to return one.

It would be fab not to worry about choosing things with sleeves or putting jakets over everything. Its an art from to cover my arms, winter is not too bad as you can wear gloves to cover my hands if I want. But I think I could live with my hands if I could cover my arms (iyswim?)

My legs I can cope with either wear trousers or tights, plus no one looks at legs too much, but arms are so blinking visible.

I can't vouch for the sizing but there is something similar by Mary Portas called Armery - might allow you some more versatility for nice patterns etc

The m&s top looks great, I have bad scaring all the way down my arms so often looking of ways to cover up, rather than melt as you say.

Regarding sizing it's prob best to go in and try on if your able to.

jennimoo · 28/10/2013 17:00

I can't help with sizing but think it looks fab, a great idea. It doesn't compare to wearing a cardi over the top, it's a totally different look.

ilikeFISH · 28/10/2013 18:36

Thanks all, much appreciated.

Lostblone86 it´s so difficult isn´t it. I use camoflague make up for most of mine, but it just not possible on my arms. Mine run from the tops to my fingers, but fortunagely the more minor ones on my upper forearms have faded / been lost in my see of freckles. But the ones on my inner arms, hands, and upper arms are terrible. Sorry to hear you have similar issues, its crap!

I can´t get into a store at the moment, unfortunately, So i think I might order 2 different sizes and just send the one back that doesn´t fit.

Thank you again for being so understanding.

Its just not a question I feel I can ask in real life, So its great to be able to ask MN:

The Mary portas things look good - lots of colours/styles.

Ebayaholic · 28/10/2013 18:48

Wingz seem to be the same thing but a bit cheaper and lots of styles. I've seen them on eBay and they have their own website

CMOTDibbler · 28/10/2013 20:51

I've got big surgical scars on my arm (and need to keep warm), and I love my Wingz. You can't tell that they are just sleeves, and no armpit show unlike the Mary Portas ones.
My friend who has lupus and needs to cover up from sunlight bought several pairs too.

I have opaque black and white, and black lace.

ilikeFISH · 28/10/2013 21:05

CMOt are any of the wings sorted of fitted? The ones I've seen on their website all seem to be billowy types?

OP posts:
CMOTDibbler · 28/10/2013 21:35

These are my everyday ones - they are like the sleeves of a good long sleeved jersey t shirt

travailtotravel · 28/10/2013 21:42

I've got Wingz too - but just have the bingo wings, not the other issues to contend with I like them because there's less of gap under the arms.

The other thing is to ask a dressmaker who might be able to make specific sets for you to go with certain outfits? If you have a particular dress in mind, might be able to match it so they look like they are part of the dress?

lostblonde86 · 29/10/2013 16:43

Ilikefish, could I ask what camouflage make up you use? I would love to cover up with make up if I could, I also have scars on my legs too.

Hope the tops work for you x

ilikeFISH · 29/10/2013 19:58

Lost mines from the USA it's incredibly strong but takes some getting used to its not a daily product its a semi permament product. Bit like a wash in wash out hair dye. Its a total sun block so it protects the scars BUT you obviously have to use it regularly rather than occassionally. Depends on how bad your scaring is, there are lots of different products I tried loads befor I found this one, which I've been using for over a year. You may find you prefer a daily or occasional product, some are like very dense foundation or concelers, some have fillers if you have indents, the most difficult thing is getting an accurate colour match and finding a product that works for you. there's a lot of options.

I think your gp should be able to prescribe a couple of options I THINK

If you want to chat through any thing or the various products I've tried please feel free to pm me

Love the look of these as I have psoriasis and often want to cover my arms, has anyone seen any plain black ones, as opposed to lacy? I find putting a long sleeved top under dresses etc is too hot/clingy.

gruffalosmile · 29/10/2013 22:42

Ah, just seen link to Wingz and they do plain black, thanks
