Help! Find me an outfit for graduation

I've finally finished my masters and am graduating next month. Now comes the big challenge - what the hell do I wear?

Apparently it needs to be a shirt (to attach the gown thingyme to), but I never ever wear shirts. I was thinking maybe some kind of dress with a collar? Or I saw Suzi Perry presenting the F1 qualifiers yesterday wearing a lovely sheer shirt? But quite honestly I have no idea.

I'm a size 10-12, average height, pale, too big tummy but otherwise good figure... Help?

How about a shirt dress?

you don't need a shirt or a collar for the gown. It just sits over whatever you are wearing.

Something bright. Looks much nicer under your gown than dark clothes.

Thanks tethers. I fear the first one may be too short. I love the second one. Do you think a pattern will look ok with robes?

peppi - the instructions definitely say to wear a collar.Do you think I can get swaway with a few strategically placed safety pins instead?

Oh, and the robes are bright blue. Similar shade to the mn logo. Colours experts- what goes with that?

I wore a white spotted black dress for mine. The trouble is it looked.... not good with the white and blue stripe of the gown.
I would either go for black or something to complement the faculty stripe.
Agree you don't need a shirt, it stays on just fine.

I graduated for my Msc on Monday. I wore a black dress and forgot safety clips so the hood was a bit strangly. Wear whatever smart thing you are comfortable in. The ceremony is pretty dull so make sure you are comfortable. Wear shoes you won't trip up in.

A plain navy shirt dress to go with the blue?

I wore a lace dress and used a hair clip to keep it all steady.

Green would be nice with blue. I think a collar would make things sit nicer, but it's by no means compulsory.

it really doesn't matter as the gown will cover eveything! nice shoes are a must though

Definitely plenty of safety pins... and a few kirby grips too to hold your mortar board on for your photographs.
