Do you ever feel like you hate all your clothes?

I obsess about this too much I think, but sometimes I feel like nothing I have in my wardrobe is quite right... Ok, correction, I often feel like only about 10% of my things are ok. I have done a huge cull in the past, so most of my things are quite nice but I just don't really like them...

Anyone else feel like that?

Most days and with reason!
This having no money thing is my real problem.

MelanieCheeks · 27/10/2013 18:01

Mmmm, no, not really. I love all my clothes, though I have a dreadful dress-buying habit, and never get a chance to wear them all.

Mumelie · 27/10/2013 18:51

I love all my clothes, expect when I've put on a few lbs and nothing looks right (like now)!

hoboken · 27/10/2013 18:53

The clothes are fine. The body is not.

BrainSurgeon · 27/10/2013 18:54

Yes, I do. I often wonder 'what on earth was I thinking when I bought that'.... And then I end up buying something similar....
I am rubbish at buying clothes

Hmm, maybe that's just me then!

I've had it lately. If I think about I realise I'm the problem at the moment, not the clothes. When I feel better about me, I'll like the clothes again.

MelanieCheeks · 27/10/2013 20:48

OK notcontent, what is it about your wardrobe that you dont like/ find unhelpful?

RainbowBob · 27/10/2013 20:59

Yes! I do! I think it's because I spend my whole life with small children who pull my jumpers and smear mucky hand prints on my jeans so I daren't buy anything too lovely in case it gets ruined. Working from home is no help as I don't have any need for a work wardrobe. Before kids I loved my clothes, now I only seem to own cheap, drab garments. If I bought anything nice I would be terrified of it getting attacked by toddlers and it would remain un my wardrobe!

RainbowBob · 27/10/2013 21:00

... in my wardrobe, that should have said!

ProtectiveMother · 27/10/2013 21:07

I used to hate them all but threw lots out/ebayed them and am now gradually buying nice things so I hope to love everything in there soon!

ProtectiveMother · 27/10/2013 21:10

Ps sounds like your style & your clothes are a mismatch. Maybe get an advice session? Never had one but have been recommended it! I'm too stubborn and I'm sorry but I saw a personal shopper recently in a very upmarket department store and I can safely say I did not like a single thing about her personal style or clothes. Ugh!

Notcontent · 28/10/2013 07:23

Thanks for the comments ladies.
I think it's a combination of just how I am feelings at the moment, and also fact that I have quite a few very nice things that just don't go together. I am slowly trying to address that fact.

I go through phases like this.
The clothes I like and the life I have don't match so I buy clothes for the life I have but feel dissatisfied.

LordPalmerston · 28/10/2013 07:26

Only when I can't fit into them

charitygirl · 28/10/2013 07:27

I used to - I liked my new things but went off them fast. Colour (particularly) and style analysis sorted me out and now I love my wardrobe, love getting dressed, love me accessories, even like doing the washing!

ZenNudist · 28/10/2013 07:39

Notcontent I feel like that more or less but I am 6m pregnant & been 'gearing up' wardrobe wise to pregnancy for ages which influences your clothes buying when you know there's big shape & lifestyle changes coming up.

I usually have a core of high street clothes, new ish that I love but which wear out & then I go off. I don't have time anymore to shop & your lifestyle with dc is different so it seems wasteful to buy good stuff when you rarely go out & spend lots of time in parks or toddler groups.

Didn't want you to feel alone on your wardrobe hating!

If you have the money, remedy it with a shopping trip. School gate style blog quite good for cheaper trying to be stylish mum ideas, or maybe people will recommend other blogs you can look at.

Planning wardrobe buys and online shopping to work out what you do/don't want can help. I don't think it's a substitute for the pre-dc time money & energy you probably used to have to shop!

YukonHo · 28/10/2013 07:47

Hate my wardrobe at the moment, but that'll be the half a stone or so I've gained in the last few months! :(

Notcontent · 28/10/2013 08:03

Thanks. I am going to try to have a few shopping free months and then go out and buy a few things that actually go together and fit me properly... That might be a good start!

MrsCampbellBlack · 28/10/2013 08:13

As others have said, its not the clothes I hate, its more how I look in them when I've gained weight.

Mrspebble · 28/10/2013 08:42

I was like this a few years back.. So apart from work where I need disposable clothes at times .. Get them in tesco.. I try and buy better quality. Like a Hobbs dress I got recently.

Have a really good clearout. Have you an iPad as there is an app that allows you to take photos of all you items of clothing and match them up.

But the same goes for me with weight.. When I lose it, everything looks better.

madmomma · 28/10/2013 09:10

Yep. I spent an absolute fortune after having dc 3 2 yrs ago on a whole new wardrobe and now I hate the bastard lot. It's all frumpy or too tight or not me. Somehow I don't think dh will sympathise

madmomma · 28/10/2013 09:12

I think I need to do the opposite of buying quality.I buy quality and then feel terrible when I hate the garment after wearing it a couple of times and realising I look a cock in it

Missbopeep · 28/10/2013 09:32

Yes often.

I don't feel comfortable over-dressed so end up with a few dresses that are hardly worn, then lots of smart casual clothes- jeans, jeggings etc- and some nice tops. I then have a gap in my wardrobe when I need something 'in the middle'.
