Cheeks - I want to glow!

Makeup experts - what are your face products for cheeks? I love the NARS Orgasm look, and highlighters and things but I actually don't know where to start. Is it blusher under cheekbones then a highlighter on the top bits? I've used a Clinique stick blusher for years and it's easy to apply but I want to look glowy, flushed, sexy and a bit shimmery without looking OTT. Healthy I suppose? Help Blush

Cream blush. Get advice in the colour. I use a pink so bright that you'd never choose it. Most people use sludge brown.

Nothing better than a cream blush or cheek tint (like benefit posietint) for that!

Posietint is brilliant and gives a fresh flush.

About to try some new cream blushes as posietint is too pink for my now flaming hair,so will watch with interest.

I have a lovely mac cream blusher in posy that is a fabulous glowy pink, but it goes so quickly. How do it make it stay on all day (or do you need to reapply)?

LordPalmerston · 27/10/2013 14:16

Yes I think I have posy. I use the huge brush

LordPalmerston · 27/10/2013 14:16

Ggirl reckons that bobbi brown doesn't last as long as nars

coffeeinbed · 27/10/2013 14:18

Nars Goldmember patted in.

coffeeinbed · 27/10/2013 14:21

It's blusher on cheekbones, highlighter on the bone.
Contouring product under the cheekbones if you must.
cream on top of powder.
pat don't rub.

ShreddedHoops · 27/10/2013 14:21

Do none of you use a highlighter too? Cream blush I guess is similar to my Clinique stick one texture wise - I don't like the powder blushers I've tried. Maybe the right blusher would mean I don't need a highlighter too.

Powder. On the top. A bit.

MrsMarigold · 27/10/2013 14:22

I find bourjois with bit of clarins beauty flash balm on top gives a good glow or benefit posy tint mixed with benefit moonbeam good. I find the tints are hard to blend and leave dots or a stripe.

OP I think the best tip I got was to put the blusher on the apples of your cheeks - ie smie and put on the fullest point and blend outwards from there.

ShreddedHoops · 27/10/2013 14:24

I'm stuck in the 80s - I suck my cheeks in and do a stripe with my stick Blush

Powder! I thought that would defeat the point of cream blusher. Will try, thanks

MarianForrester · 27/10/2013 14:29

Cream blusher, on the fat part of your cheeks when you smile. Dab on and then stipple in with a brush for long lasting coverage.

The illamasqua cream blushes are really good. The colours can look scarey in the pot but are great on.

Elsiequadrille · 27/10/2013 15:32

I use Chanel powder blusher in Rose Ecrin, apparently is a shade good for very pale skin. Also a cream I use for very tired days (like today) Clarins instant light blush in vitamin pink.

I use Le blanc de Chanel for generally glowy skin, underneath foundation or bb/tinted moisturiser.

bigkidsdidit · 27/10/2013 15:49

Marian, what brush would you recommend?

juniper81 · 27/10/2013 15:57

For a bit of shimmer I recommend the Guerlain Meteorites. They smell of parma violets. You apply with a kabuki on your cheeks or whole face. I like the Bobbi Brown highlighter which is similar.

missmartha · 27/10/2013 15:57

Problem is, if you put blusher on the fat part of your cheek when you smile, you end up with pink spots near your nostrils when you aren't smiling.

Looks vile on me.

Best way is to put blush on cheek bones on an expressionless face.

killpeppa · 27/10/2013 16:00

YouTube highlighting and contouring videos:)

I love benefit (expensiveHmm) but rimmel do great stuff and also topshop have great makeup

MrsMarigold · 27/10/2013 16:15

Doesn't that Sali on the Guardian website have a good tutorial? she is a guru on all things make-up related.

killpeppa · 27/10/2013 16:15

try kandy Johnson on YouTube she is a MUA mamma of 4

MarianForrester · 27/10/2013 16:37

Well, ideally this:

www.illamasqua.com/shop/products/brushes/blusher-brush-1

But as I am poor I have a "natural" one from a Boots set that does the trick Smile

MarianForrester · 27/10/2013 16:41

Just to be clear, after missmartha's post, I mean the outside of the smiley cheek area; the bit where people would pinch you in that annoying way people do.. Nowhere near your nose.

But, having said that, I don't have cheekbones Smile

MrsBertMacklin · 27/10/2013 16:44

Real Techniques stippling brush is excellent for buffing in cream blusher. I like apricot cream blush for when I'm tired, the Bourjois #2 is great.

I own highlighting creams, but honestly, can never be arsed with them. NARS do them, to complement their blushers, inc. Orgasm. Otherwise, Benefit 'beam' range for super glow, or That Gal for subtle glow.

Swannykazoo · 27/10/2013 17:54

Any top tips for people with no cheek bones? Have tried the "put it on the fat bits if your face when you smile" and end up as missmartha describes - kind of rocking the Aunt Sally from 80s Worzel Gummidge look. The other option is the 80s racing stripe...
Had a bit of a look on youtube before and got disheartened by videos by women with cheek bones you could shelter under in the rain - yes I can see your cheek bones, where the flip are mine? Any friendly youtube instructive people I should try?
