LBD Works Christmas party

I am going to my first work Xmas do for years. I have recently lost a bit of weight (stone and a half in old money) so I am feeling quite good. I have a really cute LBD which was very flattering before I lost the weight so I am hopeful that it will still look good it's a shift dress with elbow length sleeves and I have sparkly accessories to go with. I have some very sparkly evening shoes, silver in colour, strappy but which need to be worn with skin tone tights. Would it be a no no to team these with the LBD? I am going to be the eldest at the party and don't want to look like I'm trying too hard or getting it really wrong. I love the shoes and the dress but I am also torn by the idea of splurging on a silver dress for some reason!!, thanks for any views, sorry if it sounds a bit lame.

Did you mean lamé?Halloween Grin

Several questions:

Have you tried on your dress recently? Where will the party be held? Formal / informal? Would you be able to buy something else if dress or shoes didn't actually work? (Budget?) Describe the "sparkly accessories....." Have you asked your colleagues what people usually wear?

Scarily I do have a thought of lame but know in my heart that it would be social suicide. The accessories are some monsoon dangly earrings not too dangly and the necklace is on a long piece of black suede and is a sort of diamanté tassel. Sounds awful but it is really nice. I also have a jangly baubly bracelet. I realise I am not talking these bits up in an entirely positive way but with the dress they do look nice. The do is a dinner and disco night in the Hilton hotel in Brighton. Not too flash but there will be lots of young people there probably in a lot more revealing stuff than I would wear. I just really like the shoes and so want to wear them again. I will try the dress on again and see how it fits now and keep an eye out for an alternative that might take my fancy. I wouldn't have a big budget may be in the region of 70 quid? Thanks for replying x. Just don't want to make a twit of myself in something that looks like I haven't made an effort or am dressing for a day event.

Ok.... Repeat what you wrote: dangly earrings; tassel necklace; jangly, baubly bracelet - and the silver shoes. OP There is a very slight danger that you might go to sleep and wake up with all the office Christmas presents piled at your feet. And fairy lights twinkling in your hair.

I get what you say about not wanting to look like you've made no effort. But you also don't want to be wearing a placard that says "I haven't been to a party in 105 years and I've been saving all these things...

Could we maybe think again?

(Also - you cannot wear skin toned tights. Not even in the dark. Black; fishnets or bare legs.)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/10/2013 20:48

The LBD and the silver sandles sound lovely (I'd bodyswerve the idea of a silver dress tbh)

If you wanted to splurge them what abou a pair of really glam black shoes to wear with very sheer black tights (I don't think strappy sandle with tights would be that comfy )

Then with your accessories - statement necklace or statement earrings .
Your bracelet to give you something to fiddle with Grin
Make-up [- eyes or lips?

What's the feature you'd choose to focus on? Practice a smokey eye and your perfect red lipstick and you can choose what's better on you .

And don't worry about those whippersnappers in their barely there clothes.
You'll have an air of mystery (and you won't catch your death of cold)

Whatever happens, enjoy Wink

I realise I haven't been terribly helpful so far...

This would celebrate your weight loss....

This might be great for dancing and requires no accessories....

For your inner ... fir tree. Could be on sale soon.

OMG thank goodness you have been there to tell me the truth!! What was I thinking. You are so right of course, the operative word summing up my madness being "bauble". Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions ... You have been very helpful and that black dress with the bustier inside is really stunning and so grown up with the sexy back detail. Luckily I have a pretty good back as it happens (thank you rowing machine at the gym) so I am going to,go for it. I should mention that I am newly single and feeling more confident now than I have in years and that is the dress to celebrate in I'm thinking and sod it I will get shoes as well. In terms of make up I tend to go for emphasis on my eyes as I like them the most and luckily have long eyelashes. Thank you so much. I am really looking forward to it all now Xx
