Way to cover arms for dinner TOMORROW

goingmadinthecountry · 25/10/2013 23:52

I'm doing private dining with friends in a posh Pall Mall club. Since being back at work have put on weight and do not want to leave my arms out. Will probably wear a Phase 8 dress - black or dark green. Am 16 - 18 and 5'10. Can I wear a cardigan? Don't want to faff with a scarf while eating dinner. Please help - it's for tomorrow and am very much the country bumpkin at the moment.

If you are uncomfortable showing your arms, cover them. Have you a shrug you could wear? just thinking it would be more dressy?

Or even a bolero type cardigan like these? (might be too late for tomorrow but these are in the sale -mostly- so it may be worth getting one or two in with a view to Christmas nights out if you are self-conscious about your arms.

Here's some at Monsoon if you can get in to store in the day? (Ring ahead first to check availability?)

:)
Ps The Hobbs' one (pink with black piping would look nice over a black dress for nights out around Christmas!)

If you can't get out, what I suggest you do is wear the dressiest cardigan you have (easier to match with black at this stage as you can wear almost any colour with black... or throw a black cardigan on with the green dress) and, at the slimmest point, maybe just about your waist, add a nice slim belt, maybe patent if you have one?
Not these colours, obviously, but this idea?

If you wear the belt at the narrowest point, a bit higher than your waist, it gives the illusion of being slimmer, draws the eye up and accentuates the boobies, while distracting from your arms. :)

*above your waist, not about your waist...oops!

Use a wrap. Put it evenly around your shoulders, put over arms, tuck end lengths under your arms iyswim and get someone to tie the lengths into a bow at the back. Very effective.

I did this for a friend for the very same reason (arms) and it looked fab.

Would you like a blazer style?
I have this and is very light to wear, unless restaurant is very hot you could easily keep on for dinner

Thank you! Have ordered the Hobbs blue bolero one - OK, too late for tonight but the colour's great for me. Pink sadly isn't one of my colours. Pity I wore it for years before realising.

I can get to Phase 8 and Monsoon today - I'm sure one or the other will produce a black shrug if nothing more exciting. Really must get more organised because I've known about this for ages but life and work took over.
If all else fails I can see a black cardigan and belt woking with my green dress.

Thanks again.

Never tried it myself, but what about 'armery' Has anyone tried it? Mary Portas does it and they're like tights for your arms but they're made to go under dresses. I've had a look in the past but never purchased. You can get opaque ones/colours/lace effect.

Are they a S&B no no?

LordPalmerston · 26/10/2013 11:48

buy a dress with sleeves

CMOTDibbler · 26/10/2013 16:17

The armery things are yuck as your armpit is left exposed, but I wear Wingz which are fabulous - opaques for day and lace for evening
