I clean my face thoroughly every evening. Eat well. Drink loads of water. Don't get spots. But I have permanent whiteheads on my cheeks and chin. I do wear foundation and blusher etc every day but it always comes off at night. Can anyone recommend me a face peel or treatment to rid my face of these horrible whiteheads once and for all?

They sound like milia to me. Have a google and see if you agree. They won't disappear wthout intervention.

Walnut8 · 22/10/2013 13:23

permanent whiteheads do sound like milia.

AndTwoBits · 22/10/2013 13:40

I just googled images of milia and they don't look like milia to be honest. They aren't as obvious and are under the skin. Like tiny spots. I can squeeze them, sorry, gross I know!

Take your make up off when you get home, don't wait until just before bed. Double cleanse with a hot cloth, and occasionally use www.cultbeauty.co.uk/borghese-fango-mud-active.html

Quinoderm

Neutrogena black head facial wash is great, my ds uses it. Then use a hot flannel and sterilise a sharp needle and prick the top of white head and squeeze with fingers wrapped in tissues.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (and Effaclar K) got rid of loads of gunk from my pores and made them look much smaller. I am really impressed with these products.

GlassesDontSuitMe · 22/10/2013 16:44

Alpha H works well for me.

AndTwoBits · 22/10/2013 17:57

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am looking into them! That borghese mask is very expensive! I bet it's really good though! I might try a mud mask from lush first, a bit cheaper and cheerful. I forgot about the lush masks. And I am going to try a few of the facial cleanser suggestions one by one too.
May I ask what double cleansing with a hot cloth is? Never heard of that.

What products you using at mo?

mogontheblock · 22/10/2013 18:20

Look out for non-comedogenic foundations. Others will block your pores if you're that way inclined (I am) Bare minerals are non-comedogenic but have a google & see what other brands there are...

AndTwoBits · 22/10/2013 18:30

Oh right mogontheblocj, never though of non comedogenic make up. I do wear quite a heavy foundation. For cleansing I am using a bar of home made soap I bought earlier this year from a stall in France. And twice a week I exfoliate with boots botanical. And I moisturise with aldi lacura, the night time one. Maybe it's a bit heavy for my skin?

I really rate the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range. I use the hot cloth cleanser, the eye cream and the moisturiser for dry/normal skin and have seen a massive improvement in the condition, number of spots (barely have ANY, get maybe one or two on my chin before time of the month) and best of all, I no longer have flakey patches!. it's not overly expensive either and is often on offer. It's suitable for vegetarians and vegans and not tested on animals either in case that is at all a concern of yours.

timidviper · 22/10/2013 18:56

It sounds like milia to me too. Whiteheads usually go quite quickly on their own, milia don't which sounds like what you have.

Have you seen this: www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Milia

My DD had milia in her teens and they improved dramatically with regular cleansing, exfoliating and a light moisturiser

porkypine · 22/10/2013 20:07

I believe theory behind double cleansing is cleansing once to get rid of make-up/dirt, then cleansing again to actually treat your skin.
Cleanse 1:
I use DHC cleansing oil - rub it on my make-up-caked face, then get a hot cloth / flannel and wipe it off. It's amazing stuff.
Pat face dry with a towel.
Cleanse 2:
I then follow up with either RMK cleansing balm or Balmology's cleansing balm which smells unbelievable (read about it on Caroline Hiron's blog). Massage a little into your face, then with another hot cloth / flannel wipe it off. Your skin will feel lovely.
Follow up with Hydraluron and then a light moisturiser

If my skin is feeling a bit spotty then in between cleanses I use Cor Silver Soap which has really helped.

Skin tone is better, pores smaller and spots far less frequent. The Borghese mud thing IS really expensive but you can buy a smaller tube for £25, and at the moment Cult Beauty has £10 off £50. Thing is, it lasts forever - it's lasted me well over a year so far and have about half left.

goodasitgets · 22/10/2013 20:11

Oh the balmology cleansing balm smells AMAZING, definitely agree with you there!

AndTwoBits · 22/10/2013 20:26

Thank you all for the advice! I really don't think it's milia, they are white heads under my skin. I am defo going to read and re read this thread over the coming days, write town a few suggestions to try and give that blog a good read too! Thanks very much, am feeling positive about my skin tonight.
