Best mascara

It's been done a million times. But I need mascara!

I need brown mascara (v pale with blonde hair and blue eyes - black too harsh, makes me look old)

I want length and volume. More length than volume though.

I've been using Bare Minerals one (fat swirly sort of brush for length and volume). It's fairly good.

Just just wonder whether there is a better one available??

It needs to be easy and quick to apply too.

Help!

Have you tried Chanel Inimitable....my mum likes that for length and volume. You might also like YSL's new one Babydoll (they do one called Wheeler Brown) but it is fragranced. Dior - again fragranced - do a nice brown (the original Diorshow). My mum - when she can't buy Inimitable - like Volum' Express by Maybelline (brown/ black). The only other brown one I can think of that you might like is L'Oreal's Voluminous (it's been around for years...has 4x on the front of the packaging, I think).
Chanel Inimitable goes on very easily - my mum likes results but wouldn't be faffing about for ages! :)

Clinique mascaras are good and they have brown ones.
Guerlain le 2 volume mascara is great too, and also comes in brown. It's a bit expensive though.

Leo. The Chanel and YSL ones sound really great. Thanks. Thanks

Do you know if they are easy to apply?

I can second the loreal voluminous for a budget dramatic mascara. I much preferred it to dior show also, it's probably half the price.

Hi MrsFlorrick :)

My mum says the Inimitable goes on like a dream and she's not one to faff about. :)
I tried the YSL Babydoll (but the fragrance bothered me). That I will be honest, is a bit trickier to apply but the results are great, so worth investing in as a night time mascara? You have to apply is quite quickly and it can be layered but anything over two coats and it starts to look a bit spidery and clumpy. Nice for length and some volume and holds a curl pretty well.
You could try their original (think it's called False lashes, their original one that's been going for year...quite famous) but that is also fragranced if it's an issue and many people complain it's great but dries out too fast.
If I were you I would take myself to the local Chanel counter and have them apply Inimitable in brown instore...or (I had forgotten) their latest mascara Le Volume which has been getting rave reviews and which you might like even more!!:
Here are some reviews for Le Volume...I believe you can get it in brown:

BTW, I find most brown formulas tend to have a reddish tinge to them which can make eyes look redder. I suffer with sensitivity and redness and found brown - unless it's black/ brown with not a hint of red - made it look worse.
The best I have found is this (only comes in black though):

See the product info and also the reviews at the end of the page :)

It runs at about £17 here so it's not cheap but I know the manager Chalar (order from him often) would accept a return if it gave you problems. If you are interested the only store here is in London and the number is 0207 486 4100. The P&P is not cheap though... I order multiple tubes but wouldn't suggest you do that until you try it and know you love it yourself :)

All three go on okay - the Babydoll is more finicky - but, best of all, they come off easily. This is amazing stuff...HG! It is expensive but lasts forever! You can get it in John Lewis stores - well, some of them - and online on johnlewis.com. I have posted from the US site so you can also read the reviews. BTW, I love this stuff all over my face!
www.kiehls.com/Supremely-Gentle-Eye-Make-up-Remover/343,default,pd.html?cgid=face-eye&cm_vc=Search&start=13&q=remover
Kiehl's also do a money back thing at all their stores and counters if you react or dislike eg texture...
I work some into my eyes (tiny, less than a pea-sized blob and remove with warm water, wet but not dripping non-fluffing cotton pads (Body Shop organic - amazing things!) and pat dry :)

MrsFlorrick · 22/10/2013 21:40

Sed. Thanks. That's one worth trying given the price! It's so much cheaper than most of them.

Leo. I think I will try one of the Chanel ones. Fragrance in products isn't great for me so I may give the YSL a miss. Besides I only go out a few times a year so it would probably dry out before I used it.

The Chanel ones are sounding like a good idea as your mum says they are easy to apply. I have literally seconds to apply makeup (small DC) so it needs to be super fast or its not happening.

Thanks Thanks everyone. I have some ideas.

I've tried loads, expensive cheap and the the best one at the moment is Mabeline Catseyes (yellow tube). Its cheap and cheerful but I love it. Just as good as the expensive brand IMO
