Any other fans of Scottish knitwear out there? Recommendations?

OK I know this is a bit rarefied, but I am looking for good quality stylish Scottish knitwear. After ordering the " Skye" sweater from Boden ( made in China) and sending it back I have decided to bite the bullet, save my pennies ( or tenners) and invest in a proper piece of made in Scotland knitwear.
I ve looked at Eribe and ESK online they look beautiful.
When I was growing up, my thrifty mum was a jumble sale addict and over the years built me up quite a collection of lovely knitwear, usually from brands which no longer exist, like Hogg of Hawick. I guess I want to recapture some of that feeling.

What about Brora? Their stuff always looks gorgeous. Can only afford the socks though Grin

Yes that's true there is Brora. BTW if you are in London they do a sale every March in Chelsea Town Hall. Good discounts. I was just wondering if there were other brands out there.

I buy Brora as and when I can afford it; the quality and the heathered colours justify the cost. Having said that, I always buy mine in the sale. IMO, some of the styles are unflattering, but I love the cowl neck sweater and I have several of the cropped round neck cardigans (the ones Nigella wears).

Johnstons of Elgin cashmere is of similar quality, if you can find a style you like. There are some good sale bargains at the House of Bruar outlet near Pitlochry, but you have to pick through some very "traditional" styles to find the good stuff. I got a lovely slim fitting cashmere and silk rollneck which I've worn regularly for 3 winters and it still looks like new.

I have only longed after stuff in Ness so far, but visited the Inverness store and it seemed good quality. Smile

cloutiedumpling · 19/10/2013 11:08

Ness is great quality. I have four jackets and two coats from there and they are really warm. I find the sizing can be a bit odd though so I'd try to get to a shop rather than buying online.

DontMentionThePrunes · 19/10/2013 11:12

I'm not sure Ness is manufactured in the UK, is it? I don't have any because it's very short in the arms/body.

Judith Glue is properly (machine) knitted in Orkney. Very woolly.

cloutiedumpling · 19/10/2013 12:12

On the Ness website it says:-

"Here at Ness we are committed to using natural yarns and quality fabrics and where ever possible we source and produce these in the UK. We are always challenging ourselves to use local suppliers, buy quality and help the environment and we promise you we will keep doing so."

I find that if anything the sleeves are a bit long on the jackets and coats.

Those Judith Glue designs are gorgeous. I want a jumper in landscape (rolling hills).
