Another Didriksons thread (Lindsey vs Taylor vs Thelma vs Tilde)...sorry!

I've decided, after venturing out today, in what I'm led to believe is still only October, and getting soaked and freezing after about ten minutes, to invest in a waterproof Didriksons coat with a proper hood.

I have a lovely down jacket from Fat Face with a fur-trimmed hood, and whilst it's v warm it's not waterproof, and doesn't cover my bum. I do love it for its nice roomy hood, though, as I have a freakishly large head (I'm basically a mutant) and also big hair.

I love the fur hood trims on the Taylor and Lindsey, but they're more expensive than the other two, and I don't know whether it might be wise to go for the Thelma or the Tilde, as raincoats, rather than as proper toasty warm winter coats, IYSWIM - more versatile, maybe? I'm a 12-14 and 5'8", so would probably go for an EU38/12.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom before I take the plunge and stop dithering?

I have a Veronica parka (discounted because it was from last year's stock - I prefer parkas without fur trim) and even though I thought I wouldn't be wearing it until later in the winter, I have already started wearing it now. It's very cosy but not overpoweringly warm (and when I'm wearing it now, I'm not putting extra layers like jumpers on underneath, as I will probably do later in the winter). For days that are only wet, not cold, I have a thin mac (trench coat) with no extra padding.

So I think it depends on what you want really. As far as I can tell, all the Didrikson coats are quite warm; I'm not sure there's a huge difference in the Taylor/Lindsey vs. the Thelma/Tilde. I suspect any one of the ones you've mentioned would work for wet cold days. Then you could wear your Fat Face coat on cold dry days, and a light mac on mild wet days.

In short, have lots of coats. helpful

The Lindsey is last years model. I really want that one (don't like the pockets on the Taylor as much, love the fur trim on both) but can't find one anywhere in my size apart from Didriksons in Norway, and they won't ship to me in the UK.

Sorry that's not an answer to your question but worth bearing in mind if you're thinking of the Lindsey

Laquila · 16/10/2013 16:38

Thank you both!

Marfisa, "have lots of coats"...I hear you! I've already got bloody hundreds, but you can't have too much outerwear, can you?! I do like the Veronica but can't find a black or green on a 12.

Pootle, Vikingkids have the Lindsey in black in my size (although I'd prefer it in green - I think if I could find a 12 in green then that would make my decision for me).

I started off today's online shopping quest looking for a cheap Kaiser footmuff for my son but that soon went out the window and I got fixated on this...what a crap mother...;)

I have just bought the Taylor, in red. It is very red, but I don't mind that. It is sooooo lovely and warm, love the hood. I am a comfy 14 and got the 42, so have room for a decent jumper too- useful at the hips I have discovered.

marfisa · 16/10/2013 18:02

There is a 38 black Veronica here - I'm not sure it's discounted but the price is not bad.

MissFoodie · 16/10/2013 19:26

which one of the 4 is the warmest pls???

Laquila · 16/10/2013 20:38

Ooh thanks Marfisa, well spotted.

Queen the Taylor does look lovely and toasty! I really like the dark green, and the fact that it looks more like a parka ratheerthan an anorak, if you know what I mean. The black Veronica is probably a bit smarter. Although Iguess you'd get the best of both worlds with the Lindsey in black. Tbh I can't really bloody afford any of them!

MissFoodie if you go to the Didriksons website it gives you loads of info about each style and how padded it is etc. I think probably the Taylor is the warmest.

I have the Veronica in black and love it. It's the best coat I've had in years. Manage to get it for £80 too, so more reason to like it!!

Laquila · 17/10/2013 07:38

Thanks Tweet!

Are the Taylor and Veronica matt fabric, or shiny anorak-type stuff?

OP posts:
Laquila · 17/10/2013 07:40

Also, where on earth did you get it for £80?! Well done!

The Veronica is a matt fabric with a lovely sage green lining. I did a google search on Veronica parka and found one in the sale at a small outdoors shop that sold online.

Here it is for £100

Bump

Ww're about to have no heating for a week or so (long story. ..) and I've taken it as a sign that I should get the warmest, so I'm going for the Taylor, which I've found at £150. Now I just need to fathom their sizing. ..
