It depends on the teacher.
we have a lovely one who does one really hard advanced class, then straight after it a broken ladies class and then later in the week a mixed ability - all built around the same postures
LOTS of upper body strength.

Erm...yes...hence the name Grin

I practice ashtanga & hatha and I try & make time for something yoga related each day - even if it is just a few rounds of the sun salutation. I also love vinyasa - I always leave class feeling like I've had a massage :)

Hi everyone - I'm trying to set up a network of mums to do yoga together with professional teachers. I am trying to gauge interest in this - I think the needs of new mums are quite specific (need to bring baby, may have some pose-related special questions for teachers) so I think having groups for mums to practice in their homes, or in another space that's convenient would be great. Trying to gather interest, so please do fill in your details here - frontroomyoga.launchrock.com/

my baby is now taller than me so I'm not really your target set
and this thread is more about enjoying the classes we do than selling stuff.

Does anyone have any yoga DVD recommendations? Since I've gone back to work after mat leave I'm struggling to find a local class I can get to in time. Something fairly energetic and reasonably challenging would be good (before pregnancy I did iyengar and ashtanga once a week for about 3 years) cheers!

Don't knock the relaxation bit. Over 10 years ago my then Yoga teacher taught me a technique for clearing the mind and total relaxation. I have employed it ever since to ensure I can sleep no matter how stressed out.

I dabble with vinyasa/flow at home and enjoy it when I'm doing it. I've tried the more spiritual or meditative styles and just couldn't get into it; I prefer my exercise to be physically dynamic and high impact.

Rodney Yee is fab sunshinesue - often filmed in Hawaii so even lovelier!

Talkinpeace · 22/10/2013 15:11

I tend to go to classes as if I'm at home I get distracted by email.
higgle I'm starting to get into meditation but its taken me ten years of practice
and I really much prefer the flow / asana / strength side of it

I started practising yoga at the start of the year, has made a huge difference to my life in general. Our teacher is amazing.

I too found the mindfulness/meditation aspect very tricky at first, the teacher said that people who struggle with this part of the class usually need it the most!!
Very true for for.Try and stick with it as it does become easier.

I also love Yoga teacher Nadia Narain, but she only does classes in London, but I love her style. She has some celeb clients but I find her tutorials/videos on youtube good and down to earth.
Elena brower has good Vidoes on you tube too, very calming.
