for a lady who is recovering from major surgery. She is in her 50s and the wife of a colleague (thus far unable to give me any indication of what sort of smells she might like - can't even remember what perfume she wears....). We have had a collection from work and have around 65 pounds (keyboard wont do pound sign for some reason) to spend.

I would prefer a couple of decent sized things rather than lots of travel sized ones but am lost on which brand to go for. I quite like L'Occitane myself and am drifting in that direction but open to other recommendations. I don't really want anything that is a perfume add on IYSWIM (eg; body milk from a Chanel range type of thing).

thank you all.

Neals yard? I love l'occetain too!

Arran aromatics After The Rain and Fig Leaves is lovely without being too overpowering.

ProfondoRosso · 14/10/2013 21:36

L'Occitane is a great idea. You might also look at Diptyque (sold in Space NK and John Lewis) or Roger et Gallet (they have a brilliant range in the new 'fancy' perfume bit of M&S). They both have lots of really elegant, luxurious fragrances.

How about something from Penhaligon's or Crabtree and Evelyn? C&E stock scented candles and other gifts if you're not sure which fragrance to choose from.

I had something by Arran Aromatics once and it was lovely. Thanks, I will have a look. Thanks to everyone for some nice suggestions.

Origins stuff is nice and House of Fraser have an offer on where you get a free skincare set when you buy two Origin products.

awaywego1 · 14/10/2013 22:02

I'd second neals yard-waitrose had a 3 for 2 on last week.

I would personally avoid scented candles - a lot of people get migraines from them.

Laura Mercier has some sets, including sampler sets of hand creams and body souffles: www.selfridges.com/en/Beauty/Brand-rooms/Brands/LAURA-MERCIER/Body-bath-fragrance/Body/Souffle-Body-Creme-Sampler-Collection_304-3001489-12608732/

Or how about a nice Nuxe lip balm and some skincare from REN? Space NK has both brands. Maybe a book as well.

Rituals Mei Dao- lovely gentle almond scents

Laura mercier stuff is lovely their body soufflés are just so luxurious

I once got a lovely hair shampoo and conditioner from l'occitaine and they were just lovely( the start of an expensive habit) , something I wouldn't get from myself on a day to day basis though and not a gift everyone would think of so I loved it. Aveda range is lovely too but the l occitaine packaging is nicer :)

I would go for L'Occitane or Aromatherapy Associates who do lovely bath oils /shower and body creams ... Depends on surgery.
