Winter coat for girls

DD is in reception and has a Regatta waterproof 3 in 1 jacket (has a detachable fleece) which seems it won't be warm enough for deepest winter. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what she needs? Is it a ski jacket or will this be too hot? It needs to be waterproof.

Dd has a Lands End Squall Parka. It was OK last year in sub zero temperatures (not in UK) although she did wear ski trousers as well in the snow. Anyway, I was impressed with Lands End. They had another coat that seemed even warmer and also waterproof on their website too.

ski jackets no good in UK rain/damp.

more layers under the waterproof jacket, plus fleece hood.

DS has a school fleece lined anorak and a Boden puffa for school. The idea is he wears the puffa for really cold weather. In fact last year he just wore his anorak and insisted he was fine with that.

the dd's have lots of coats, we have a bit of a thing about them here.

The best ones I have found are the boden padded anorak or the joules waterproof hooded coat (think the patterns are ducks or horses this year) we also have boden puffa jackets brought in the January sale.

DD is beyond delighted with her 4-in-1 coat from Lands End. I have to say, I'm also hugely impressed. She's gone off today with the inner zipped out.

Landsend - waterproof down parka with extendable sleeves for extra long life - the best one I've bought! Sign up to their website and wait on the discount code - I got 25% off - they have discount codes as often as Boden!

Notfootball · 15/10/2013 13:38

Boden and Lands End look good but any cheaper options? I have about £40 to spend, should have said that sooner.

go outdoors? they have good jackets and some are very cheap.

there are usually boden or lands end codes about Z363 is 20% off boden, so the anorak should be less than £40 with free delivery and returns.

hellymelly · 15/10/2013 13:43

I agree Landsend are very good for any outdoor kit. I buy from the US website as they have far more choice, and great sales, but the postage is steep and I sometimes get stung for duty too . However their customer service is excellent and the clothing really lasts. My dds have jackets and snow trousers with "grow along" sleeves/legs that you can lengthen by undoing a seam.

Notfootball · 15/10/2013 13:48

Thanks for the code Dontletthem, I'll take a look at Boden.

Special are ski jackets not waterproof or do they take long to dry out?

Lands End have some of last year's coats in the outlet section of their website for £30. Only in a small size though, so depends how big your dd is. My dd is nearly 6 and I reckon the medium size she has will last her at least another two years, so I would say the sizing is generous. She is quite slim though.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 15/10/2013 14:44

this one I lovely, slightly longer so will keep her warm, www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-girl-parka-coat/p391798?colour=Purple

Mine had 3-in-1 coats through primary/junior (my DS wears his without the fleece layer)

Don't forget they'll have their shirt/polo + sweatshirt/jumper.
Add on hat/gloves/scarf if you want.
I gave DD vest (pretty ones) and a white vest for DS.
She'll be toasty Grin

Notfootball · 15/10/2013 20:43

Maybe she'll be fine in the one she has as it is much like some of the ones you have linked to. I think I'm too used to padding = warm enough.
