Outfit ideas for family photo shoot

Am feeling a bit stuck. Next week a photographer is coming over to take some family photos. She's doing mostly reportage, so will be following us around and advised we might want to have a couple of outfit changes.

I would like something quite comfy but classic (I know the photos will date but I would rather not cringe in a few months time!) and in keeping with our house/lifestyle, which is very much countryside & outdoorsy. DCs are 2.5 years and 8 months, so I will need something that looks good with me crawling around after them.

My main concern is that although I am back to my pre-DC size, I do have more of a belly than I used to and can't wear anything too clingy. This is made worse by the fact I have stopped BFing and my boobs are shrinking back to their original size or possibly smaller .

I am 5'7", size 8/10, good legs but top half a bit ropey! Short brown pixie crop and brown eyes, sallow skin. I was thinking leggings and brown chunky boots with big jumper for one? Maybe a day dress for another? I really have no clue and my confidence is in my boots at the moment. Thanks in advance.

I would put some cute matching outfits on the little ones. And you could put any outfit really and than throw on a nice scarf to cover the "top half" :-) Your baby is just 8 months, so well done for being your normal size again!

We had a photo shoot when our DS was about 8 months old and I decided to keep things simple by wearing a Boden navy & white striped tunic with leggings and boots, although I did throw in a statement necklace for good measure.

Are you wearing the right size bra? That will make a difference to your outline.

And surely you'll be sporting the mn scarf?!

We had a family shoot last weekend and I went well basic. The photos will be in black and white.

I wore dark indigo straight leg jeans and a white long-sleeved t-shirt. I also wore a slim, fitted pale grey cardi in some of them. And basic nude heels (it was inside).

I would advise against leggings. I dunno why - maybe because I personally just really don't get them, plus I think they will date more than most things.

Wear whatever is going to make you feel good and be comfortable. But maybe beware of trying to overcompensate and cover yourself up too much, i.e. a big jumper/chunky boots combo.

Definitely get yourself into the right size bra - does amazing things for your silhouette and waist.

And come on, you're a size 8/10 - embrace it!!

Mumof3girlys · 14/10/2013 09:23

I think you can't go wrong with jeans and white tees, when I had my and my girls pictures done this was what we wore!

Mumof3girlys · 14/10/2013 09:23

Oh and bare foot

Valdeeves · 14/10/2013 09:26

Skinny jeans, brown boots, fitted white shirt? Or jersey day dress, tights, boots?

We just had one but it was indoors so we all worse summer clothes - thankfully as I have nothing nice for the winner.
I am the same size as you - but shorter - but have the same problem - flat boobs and a wrinkly tummy!

You're paying for a professional service. Your photographer will take pictures of you that make you shine. Wear something comfortable that reflects the real you. Dress your kids as you usually would and try to relax. It'll be a fun day.

Wear a proper belly crushing girdle, just for that hour, and wear exactly what you want! That's what I would do.

abigboydidit · 14/10/2013 13:09

Thanks for the advice. You may be right re leggings but I don't have any jeans I like at the moment and the ones I do have tend to flash my bum when I crouch - never a good look! The photographer is actually a friend of a friend who does it as a hobby. We're paying buttons and she will spend half a day with us, so I don't think a girdle is an option! Had been holding off buying a new bra as wasnt sure if my boobs were still shrinking changing but I may need to get one anyway.

Sorry - I should have added that I have either been pregnant or breastfeeding (or both) for the past 3 and a bit years, so my wardrobe is really lacking. I've actually hated having boobs (even though they weren't big by most people's standards, they made me feel mumsy) and I'm already feeling happier dressing myself but I literally have nothing I would be happy having photos taken in. My most flattering jeans are a kind of grey colour but I got spaghetti sauce on them last week and it has left a mark. They're also too short to wear any way other than tucked into boots.

I do have a tendency to hide under layers and chunky clothes, so I should take that on board..

There's another thread on here - may slipped onto the 2nd page - where people are recommending skinny jeans for around a tenner in New Look and Primark, that fit reslly well and are flattering. For the sake of a tenner, and if you have good legs, could this be a possibility?

Then, rather than a big jumper, why not a more fitted, long line with, with some sort of spanx or girdle. If you're wearing a long line top, then no chane of it flashing your undies, and it will be a much more flattering shape. :)

And then get properly measured and try Bra Stop for a decent bra.

abigboydidit · 14/10/2013 20:24

Thanks, that's good advice. Will see if I can find the thread about the jeans.

Why not dye your grey jeans if they fit well?
