Best way to sell baby clothes?

KosherBacon · 12/10/2013 21:07

I know that there are consignment clothes for adult stuff, but where is good to sell baby clothes?

I've put my Gap, Boden, White Company stuff etc into a pile and I want to sell them and want to get the best price for minimum hassle.

Should I do them as a bundle, or smaller batches? Where is good? Ebay? Gumtree? If I am only going to get £1 an item then I can't be bothered.

Any tips and hints?

Give away anything that isn't a "label" for starters. The labels you mention are fine, you might sneak a few bits from M&S, Mothercare etc into a bundle to make up the numbers if they are nice.

Make as large a bundle as you can, preferably of the same size, and try eBay as your first port of call. Make sure that the good brand names feature prominently in your listing title, Boden and White Company especially.

As for pricing, try a bit under £2 per item as a "buy it now" for the bundle and start bidding at around 50-60% of that.

I had more success at a tabletop baby sale TBH, but I got lucky with one buyer who bought loads of my stuff, and even then had to factor in the cost of the pitch. Mothercare and other baby stuff went for about 50p an item in that sale.

Thanks Poppywearer. I've put in half a dozen M&S babygrows and bits in. Is it worth doing it as a buy it now price for all of it, or starting it as an auction with a decent starting price (eg £10). I see bundles going for £2 and I am not selling it for all of that price. I'd rather give it away.

The Tesco/ Mothercare etc stuff is being given away to various friends.

I usually run an auction with a buy-it-now as well. But that's just me! I'd say they sell 50% as auctions and 50% as the buy-it-now price. I do price realistically, not ambitiously.

Try your local mumsnet site you can list for free. Or try facebook local selling groups.

Definitely Facebook sites. eBay not worth the effort at the moment.

Thanks for the tops. I've just noticed there are two NCT nearly new sales near me I'm the next few weeks. I'm wondering if it's worth doing. And how do you decide which one gets the best prices? For those in Manchester, which is better, Chorlton or Partington, Trafford?

I sold all mine at NCT sales, I did very well, they are excellent.

I'd second NCT sales - I sold out of clothing when I did a sale and got rid of most baby equipment too. For an afternoon's effort (and a few hours beforehand making sure everything was clean, looked good etc) it was the easiest way of getting rid of things for least hassle and for a good price. Good luck.

Meant also to say that it's worth having a friend help as the sale I did was very busy and a bit of a bun fight. Having two of us to serve people meant we could sell more stuff in less time! Also price stuff reasonably but people will be prepared to pay for good labels in good condition.

I might see if any friends want to join me in taking a table then.
