Help me choose a stylish but also long and very warm coat for standing around rugby pitches?

Can anyone recommend one? After today, I have realised that it has to cover my bottom (not yet defrosted) but beyond that I can't decide what sort.

I quite like this Zara one

and this one claims to be waterproof

Which do you like best? I'd like a furry hoodSmile

I'm seven years in and my youngest DS doesn't start for another 3 seasons. There must be a feet solution Shock

I use a hand warmer in my gloves.

casacastille · 13/10/2013 16:44

You lot should be hard as nails by now.

This is my 3rd year (just one DS) but my first of outdoor winter matches. I have never got cold watching ballet

Thanks for the supplier name sedgieloo, good price.

I have to agree that there is nothing like a proper outdoor jacket for warmth, & I really not into functional clothing.

I bought one last year & I wish I'd bought one before. I was a bit concerned about looking like a geographer, but someone asked me if it was Maxmara!

To be honest, that Zara jacket looks very similar to the Aigle Cuckmere, which came in khaki in past seasons, but it won't be anything like as warm.

QueenofLouisiana · 13/10/2013 17:17

I have a Land End down coat. It has seen me through about 6 winters so far (but really need a new one now). Wish I had worn it this morning- I was nearly drowned by the touch line today.

Just noting ideas about furry insoles and boots- it is my first festival next week!

Platinumpennies · 13/10/2013 17:27

Am ten touch line years in. Throw money at it. North Face parka and layers. It is ALWAYS colder than you think it's going to be Shock !

SDhopeful · 13/10/2013 17:38

been there, dunnit! Grin. Bought a superlight one yesterday in primarni fits in a little bag to keep for days when you aren't sure. When winter really kicks in, full blown ski wear required.. (and flask of hot choc)

NewNameforNewTerm · 13/10/2013 17:50

I've been to TKMax today and there were quite a few padded coats like this. I didn't see any full length coats though and that is what I prefer for touchline and dog walking.

NewNameforNewTerm · 13/10/2013 17:52

Ski-wear, that's an idea. I had some "winter walkers" trousers from Hawkshead a few years ago that were so warm. They were wind resistant and lined with fleece. I "outgrew" them unfortunately.

AngieM2 · 13/10/2013 18:54

(Rugby mum here). I wear a michael Kors down coat (cost £100 from TK Maxx) but I've had it 2 years and washed and re-proofed it and its lost its edge a bit. The dads at rugby swear by 'Rab'...costs a flippin fortune and nor sure if they do full length (which i think is essential) so thats what I'd like.

MrsKoala · 13/10/2013 19:17

i second the northface arctic parka - was up whistler and blaxkcomb mountain in the snow at -6 yesterday and was toastie. I had a vest, topped with a long sleeve tight t-shirt, a sweater and the parka on.

As for feet, i have also tried on the northface knee high, furry boots and they were very warm. these or these are very good.

nogoodusernamesleft · 13/10/2013 19:22

Footie mum here, 10 years in. Have been through many coats over the years but am currently selling my Michael Kors one on ebay, having invested in a Monsoon Ellie puffa, which I've been lusting after for years, can't wait for it to arrive!

Lands End coats are perfect for this kind of job. Glamorous - no. Warm - definitely.

I can recommend ski wear too.

Salopettes, snow boots and ski gloves make a huge difference in conjunction with a warm coat

I do Northface and layers. Wellingtons are too cold even with socks. I do walking books or even Docs. The most essential item for me is a really warm hat. That makes all the difference ime.

jonicomelately · 13/10/2013 19:45

Boots not books!

MrsKoala · 13/10/2013 19:59

I'm not sure Schmaltzing Blush . I just checked the label and it says 75% goose down cluster ?? You'd have to check the website for more info i'm afraid. It is very warm and lovely tho. I got the chocolate brown colour. I wanted the white but i thought it wasn't practical :(

I got it at about £250 in the sale last March and thought it would be for this winter. But then we had a cold snap and snow in April so i got a couple of months wear out of it last winter too.

I'm tall and it still keeps me warm to my knees - which most parkas don't and end just under the arse on me.

I can see it lasting a good 5 years or more, so imo worth the money.

MrsKoala · 13/10/2013 20:06

it's also nice and fitted with a waist elastication bit at the back. So being tall and a broad shouldered it's one of the few parkas which doesn't make me look like a yeti in a sleeping bag.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 13/10/2013 22:03

For those of you with the aigle cuckmere - is it waterproof?

oh and i've just seen there is a feather escaping, so i think it is :)

suebfg · 14/10/2013 07:02

The Aigle cuckmere is described was waterproof and having worn it numerous times in the rain, it has never let any rain in.

It is very warm - definitely a winter coat - I love mine.

TheMilkyBarsAreOnMe · 14/10/2013 10:20

This Marmot coat is beautifully warm and I really reaally hate being cold!

QueenofLouisiana · 16/10/2013 16:52

Thank you to all those who suggested Didriksons. My new coat arrived today, it has already encountered the horror of playground duty in the rain!

So, it is a bit red but very snugly. I feel I need a sign- no ewoks were harmed in the making of this coat! I ordered from Laws, it was delivered yesterday, but taken to the sorting office.
