Safe Dresser

OK, this thread was inspired by another thread where the DH said the OP was frumpy.

A lot of the posters have said "you're a safe dresser, that's ok, is your choice".

I think what I would like to know is what do you class as "safe" and, er, not safe? Is not safe: fashionable or edgy or individualistic or retro? Or something entirely different and what clothes typify the opposite of not safe to you?

I'll kick off. Safe dresser to me is "the uniform" of skinny jeans, big jumper, scarf and boots - because how is that in anyway different? It's all so yawn, isn't it?

Not safe: I need to think about this a bit more.

What about you?

For me, 'safe' dressing is dressing like everyone else. As you say, the mum uniform, which seems to be skinnies/knee high boots/tunic/scarf or skinnies/converse/ parka. Nothing wrong with that look at all - it's popular because it looks good - but when every woman pushing a buggy or chasing after a scooter looks the same it can be a bit dull.

But I very much believe in pleasing yourself when you get dressed, not the fashion police, so who cares if your outfit is 'safe' or not? If you like it wear it.

Safe dressing to me is boring dressing - wearing bland, inoffensive garments that make the wearer blend into the background.
