Argh! I could cry! I've ruined my hair haven't I?

I've been a complete idiot. Don't know what the scooby doo I've been thinking lately but for the last 3 pigging weeks it's all been about my pigging hair & now I've well & truly fooked it up.

It's been coloured about 4 times, I think & had colour B4 on as well & a colour after that. I know, madness. But do you know what the saddest thing is about it all - it's still the same bloody colour that I started out with! It's bad enough that I didn't achieve the colour I want but now I've wrecked it to within an inch of its life.

It's longish, but looks fooking horrible now. I cannot wear it down, will have to tie it back & hide it. I only had a trim a few weeks ago. I'm trying to grow it longer. I 'treated' my hair to an intensive conditioner today, yeah like that's going to do anything! I can't get it to look like hair anymore!

I've got eggs (protein, but drying - so ive heard) and some olive oil (it's a massage kind) will they help? Or has my hair died (s'cuse the pun) and ain't no oil on this planet gonna put it back together again? Is the chop the only option?

Shampoo wise, is Aussie really really good? For budget shampoo? I near hair therapy....

Use any conditioner you have and massage in before bed. If you have a towel turban, sleep with that on so that your hair is conditioned overnight.

Treat it gently, use a mild shampoo and if possible allow to dry naturally as long as possible and finish with a gentle blow dry.

It will recover, but gentle is the way to go for awhile.

valiumredhead · 11/10/2013 21:55

You need a big jar of coconut oil, massage in and leave over night and sleep on a towel, shampoo off in the morning, put shampoo THEN water and wash twice.

Do this twice a week.

kaumana · 11/10/2013 22:01

I agree with the coconut oil therapy, make sure it is the true coconut oil found in the oil aisle not as a hair treatment.

valiumredhead · 11/10/2013 22:18

Waitrose do a jar for 2 quid in the baby section or you can get some from Amazon.

louwn · 12/10/2013 10:47

Does coconut oil make it greasy? I fancy trying it but hair already has a slight tendency to greasy roots.

valiumredhead · 12/10/2013 14:16

No, it makes it soft but you have to put shampoo on before water and wash twice. I just put coconut oil on the ends of my hair.

Mumof3girlys · 12/10/2013 15:23

Few months ago my hair turned into a huge dry mess, I have fair hair anyway and about 3 times a year I have few highlights put in done mental hairdresser decided to use a 30% peroxide with the bleach (I'm bloody blonde anyway need nowhere near this to lift) anyway my hair started to break and as SO dry! I basically started warming oilve oil out the cupboards, would message in (roots including) wrap head in warm towelling turbun thing I have and would sleep in it and wash out the next morning, regardless of what everyone said about it making my roots greasy it didn't because my hair was just so dry!

I also stopped blow drying or using strighters for few 2 months to, I would just wash and scrunch with little serum in fact everyone loved the natural look so much I still wear it like it now!

Good luck x

HaveAGoodDay · 12/10/2013 20:46

Great advice thanks :)

Feeling despondent about the whole episode, just which I hadn't started messing about with colour in first place, if I knew it wasn't going to work out anyway!

Still getting pangs of jealously when I see redheads, but I've admitted defeat & will just let my hair rest now & let my natural colour come through, after all, it is auburn!

Oh dearSad Well this is my tale of woe. No-one replied but hey ho. Anyway I stand by what I said, it made a big difference.

LidlAngel · 12/10/2013 20:58

When I went a bit mental with Sun In a few years ago I went to the hairdresser (almost in tears, with bits of gorse bush in my hair after having been sledging which rendered it a big knotted mess) and she recommended a conditioner for afro hair. I only needed a small amount and it prevented my hair breaking off in big clumps.

NicolaSeven · 13/10/2013 09:33

Brazillian blow dry from amazon. Seriously, seriously life/hair changing.

Mine's past my shoulders now whereas before it always used to snap off.

HaveAGoodDay · 14/10/2013 11:06

Ok so I've been and got some Aussie stuff, the moisturising range, slapped on the 3 minute miracle reconstructor, but left it on for 30 mins. My hair, I think certainly looks better for it. I can definitely feel my hair has got thinner, I usually have very thick hair. It looks thinner, at the back where the length falls, the hair doesn't look solid, there are gaps iykwim? It's very fine now, so I must of lost quite a lot. Lesson learned.

I find olive oil very good and seems to wash out easier than coconut.

piratecat · 14/10/2013 11:18

did you put a permanent on it after using colour b4? as you are supposed to leave putting any peroxide based ( semi or permanent colour) on for at least a week.

:(

HaveAGoodDay · 14/10/2013 14:30

Piratecat I only put a level one, 8 wash colour in light brown straight on after the Colour B4 as my roots had gone yellow & my lengths a ginger/orange ombré. I've done it in the past with no problems, but this time within 3 days my hair had darker back to medium brown. Then after a week (& loads of shampooing) I tried a vibrant rich copper gold (permanent) which did nothing, if only prob made it darker!

There's that little ginger in me that's raging to go and get colour b4 again - but the sensible one, like obi wan, is holding the ginger one back. All in good time, otherwise I will be bald.

L'Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 Shampoo/conditioner is in my opinion very good.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 14/10/2013 17:49

I'm going through this just now ! The only plus (for me) is that my hair is pretty short so I can get it cut out. I was bleach blonde last weekend then the ginger in me was calling to loud and I started the whole bloody process again. I'm determined to get it right this time though as I was getting fed up with the blonde and it was wrecking my hair.

I really recommend sulphate free shampoos (this L'Oreal one is good www.boots.com/en/LOreal-Paris-Hair-Expertise-EverPure-Colour-Care-Moisture-Shampoo-250ml_1250777/ for coloured hair.

And even though you're trying to grow it, if you can face it get another trim. It will make it look much better....

PinkFairyArmadillo · 14/10/2013 17:57

Joico K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor. It's amazing stuff if your hair is gummy/stretchy from over processing.

Also the coconut oil is great for as a conditioning treatment, Tesco do big jars of organic pure coconut oil in their world food section.

Ditch anything with silicones in as they'll make your hair feel better without actually doing anything. I find the Tresemme Naturals range very good and the Naked range from Boots, they're all silicone free.

CakeBotherer · 14/10/2013 18:05

I have argon oil. Without it I wouldn't be able to brush my hair (due to unsupervised fucking about with hair dye). It's stupidly expensive, but a tiny bit goes a long way, so is lasting a long time.

There are cheaper argon oil shampoos about that I've heard good things about.

piratecat · 14/10/2013 18:07

oh bugger. I had a disaster too, was meant to be medium brown but came out black. Burnt my scalp too in the process.
Same one i've always used, so got some colour b4 (have used it last yr) which then burnt my scalp even more. Went orange, which i expected, but i left it alone, only because my scalp couldn't take any more.

It started to darken up again. it's because (they say) you've not washed it out in the water for long enough, but i know i did.

Anyway, the colour isn't too bad now. I had bought some 8wash stuff like you, in an ash blonde to tame the red, but it's not too crazy atm.

you could try the colour b4 milder one in a couple weeks, did you use that one or the stronger one?

HaveAGoodDay · 15/10/2013 13:26

piratecat it was the extra strength one.

Yes, i know what you mean about the rinsing, feels like you're in the shower for an eternity with the bloody rinsing!

I'm going to give it at least 4 weeks then i see what my hair is like, i may give the colour B4 another go. My hair really is a lot thinner - just scared i'll loose the whole lot or end up with bald patches. CB4 really does knacker your hair, even if it doesn't show straight away.

You say your scalp burnt - that to me sounds like you could of had a reaction - i'd be careful about any colours/removers you use in future and do a skin test first just to be on the safe side :)

Thanks ppl for recommendations for hair saviours, all being noted :)

I colour my hair monthly to hide the greys. I used to have highlights at a salon but could no longer justify the cost. I shampoo and condition everytime I wash my hair using L'oreal smooth intense products. Each week I also leave on a L'oreal intensive repair conditioner over night. When styling use a heat protection product.
