Stylish gift help needed!

My friend turns 50 this week. I have no idea what to get him! He is stylish, arty, single, lives alone in a city flat. I don't think jewellry would be any good and I bought him cufflinks for a previous landmark birthday. He isn't the sort of person to go on an "experience" of any kind. I live several hundred miles away and haven't seen him for several years which makes it harder as I don't know what he has in his new apartment. All ideas very gratefully recieved. £100 (ish) budget.

Lovely leather gloves would be my first thought.

I went for a Brora thick cashmere scarf in the end, slatey blue as he has flinty blue eyes. I wanted leather gloves but the ones I liked on Mr Porter were either just too expensive or not the right colour/size. I decided against a stylish home item as he may have it already. All the ideas were so great though, I could have bought him pretty much anything suggested. A vintage light would have been fab, but I had left it a bit late, maybe for his 60th! for all you helpful stylish posters!
