Hello! Smile

Was just wondering what the average age was to start using night cream was.

Like I say, I'm 29 and I've been using olay regenerist serum and spf 30 moisturiser for a couple of years now and I'm quite impressed with it. I also use a spa sanctuary face mask once a week, which is also good at giving you a bit of glow. However, in the last couple of months I've noticed I'm starting to look different. I'm not noticing loads of wrinkles, although I'm starting to get those really annoying nose to mouth lines grrrrr, but really it's more about the texture of my skin that has changed.

I've heard about visable pores and that being a tell tale sign of aging, but I never understood what everyone was on about. I do now unfortunately and it really pisses me off!

So have thought about using a night cream, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea at my age. Would it be a bit of an overkill? If not, can anyone recommend some good ones? Tempted to carry on using the olay range.

So ladies, what age did you start using night cream? Do tell..........

I've used night cream from age of 20 on-and-off. My skin is greasy ATM so not using and need to find a 'light' alternative. However I was using an Estée Lauder one.

I have moisturised my skin of a night since I was a teenager. It would have been ponds or revlon back then in the late 1970s.

At night is the best time to wear a cream or serum as it is not hampered by wearing make up over the top.

The DM had an article recently, ok it's really an advert disguised as an article, but you can read the comments section as well for advice

I've always been told to start early with skincare products to prevent wrinkles, as they can't make wrinkles and damage to the skin disappear.

I've used night creams (or just any kind of cream that works for me) for 3-4 years. I'm 30.

I have a night cream from Gatineau which is okay, but I must admit that I often just use my day cream at night time. Same with eye cream - I use it day and night.

I started around your age. Not especially because of signs of ageing, but because I have dry skin and decided it might help! I really love the Body Shop Aloe Vera night cream. Cheap (online) and very effective.

polyhymnia · 09/10/2013 12:45

Yes definitely - have used once since my ( long ago) early 20s.

I am 38 and have started doing Eva Fraser facial exercises, her advice is to NEVER use any moisuriser at all at night, and only a little in the morning.

I was super skeptical at first, but have finally taken the plunge and after just a week my skin is soooooo much better.

So maybe the answer to your quiestion op, is 'never' Grin

Orangeanddemons · 09/10/2013 14:08

I've used them from the age of 12, as I had very dry skin.

I now get compliments on how young looking me skin is Grin.

SpookyRestingFace · 09/10/2013 14:36

Gobblers The Dr Hauschka method also does not recommend any cream at nighttime. I tried it for a while and it was actually really nice, my skin looked good. Then I ran out of their cleanser and toner (had a trial kit) and slipped back into my old ways. I do moisturise at night now, as I have since around the age of 20 or so.

ElizabethBathory · 09/10/2013 14:39

I tried the Dr Hauschka method of not using anything at night (think Eve Lom also says the same) - tried it for years in fact, but my skin never got any less dry and dull. Then I started using night cream and it vastly improved - much more comfortable and radiant. Think some people just need a bit of moisture!

oreoaddict · 09/10/2013 15:42

Hmmmm, conflicting advice.

I haven't really got dry skin so I don't want to over do it. I've actually got parts of my skin which are quite greasy.

Does anyone use a night serum?

bishboschone · 09/10/2013 16:54

I have used them since my teens . I have dry skin and found I needed something .

squoosh · 09/10/2013 18:04

But night creams aren't necessarily for anti ageing purposes, I use Origins Drink Up as my night cream it's a thick and moisturising cream/mask that is FAR too rich for daytime use.

I use serum, oil and night cream.

Bonsoir · 09/10/2013 18:05

I am 47 and definitely use a serum - great stuff!

FracturedViewOfLife · 09/10/2013 18:23

I have used night cream whenever I remember for the last two years (I'm 27)

Meglet · 09/10/2013 18:26

I started in my early 20's. Anything from night cream to nivea.

oreoaddict · 09/10/2013 18:43

Nivea gets a lot of good press actually. I always found it really greasy and it never sank in to my skin, but maybe for night time it would be ok. I know I've got a pot lying around somewhere.

I don't even bother to take my make up off at night atm, so I'm going to have to really train myself Grin

Clarins multi active fluid for day and night cream are fantastic! I started using them mid 20's. they are pricey but a little goes a long way and they last ages. I'm missing them at the moment as can't really justify on maternity pay!
