Maternity wear...

I'm looking for maternity wear that isn't for mumsy boden types.

Even the stuff on asos is so far removed from my style.

I guess I dress like a stylish 90's indie kid (not hipster, honestly) but that's just how I dress.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried Topshop and H and M?

Both do good basics - skinnies, vests, t- shirts etc.

Agree H&M. I've been wearing some of their tops for weeks now and they wash up brilliantly. Also their jeans are comfortable.

It's not the best suggestion, but just get canny about buying non-maternity clothes that will work. You will find the odd maternity thing, so keep your eye on ASOS and H&M for long tops, say. And if you wear jeans I think it's worth investing in a good pair of maternity ones with a stretchy waistband (Seraphine are good).

But otherwise, buy a few roomier things from the mainlines and make do. Eg I got a cocoony car coat that covered me for the last of my pregnancy (November baby) and looks lovely still. Maternity leggings are a wash, they just slide down, you need a proper wasitband to hold the damn things up! - just go for something thick and wear under your belly (these M&S ones are good, order in advance and get the delivered to store for free, they never have them in). Stretchy dresses are great, you just end up wearing them like tunics / tops. And I found that cardigans and jackets fit me like before, just no chance of doing them up Grin

Get a comfy wire free bra, my Bravado silk seamless ones were amazing, really comfy to sleep in and gave good shape whatever the size of my breasts, wore them all through pregnancy and BFing, they wash brilliantly, and then they convert to a normal bra (though you'll want to burn the damn thing at that point). They come in small, medium, large, rather than specific sizes, and really do cover a multitude of sins.

And since that's all so fecking boring, throw yourself into the world of accessories!

Are you canny with a needle/sewing machine? I bought some maternity stuff but have also sewn some of my own bits (went on holiday at 30 wks, refuse to buy even more maternity clothes for it). It's pretty easy to make elasticated waist skirts of various kinds. I'm also wearing h&m long vest tops, dresses with leggings now it's cold (my bump is massive and I was already fat so maternity leggings do work for me) and I bought some long boyfriend cardigans from Primark.

Sewing ideas here diymaternity.com/index/ I altered a cord skirt the other day adding a stretchy waistband. With a long stripey t shirt I look like very 90s indie kid

New look is good too
Other than the other suggestions now its getting colder you could get bigger sizes of oversized jumpers.
Ferne Cotton said she didn't wear maternity clothes just bigger sizes of clothes and she always looked good IMO

I can't sew.

Floaty tops and leggings are ao far away from my style, it makes me want to cry. And I don't own jeans..

Might try the 'wearing normal clothes in a bigger size' game, that sounds more feasible. Thank you!
