Someone at work wears some lovely , unusual jewellery. She says that she gets a lot from small galleries and some graduate shows. Does anyone know any web links for this kind of thing? I have no idea how much it costs but I would love to own some!

To make the sites easier to access:

ciarabowlescontemporaryjewellery.mysupadupa.com

Now that I have had a chance to look at the links, the Grace Hamilton stuff is a bit... out there. Grin

The Dazzle exhibitions in London, Edinburgh and Manchester have some lovely stuff in them

I get my more unusual pieces from the Dazzle exhibition. I've bought this and these

Try small independant jewellers and check when your local universities/art schools run their graduate shows. Get yourself on the mailing lists. If you are in London, there are a couple of nice places in the Oxo tower.

To be honest, the best jewellery I have bought in recent years has been straight from the source when on holiday. I like to buy from local craftspeople so I know the money goes back into the local economy. It takes a while to get your eye in, but after a bit you get in the habit of identifying potentially good shops and stalls. Eastern Europe is particularly good. A few years ago I bought a beautiful pair of delicate metalwork earrings that I later discovered were made by an internationally known jeweller. Because I had bought them from his studio I paid a fraction of the price I would have paid in the UK.

Thank you for suggestions. I'd never heard of dazzle before, it looks great. I agree with what you say Slug. I gave a friend who goes to Poland for work and some of the jewellery she has bought out there is gorgeous!

If you ever come to the Isle of Wight go to Quay Arts where they showcase lots of jewellery designers . I had Nina Bulley make me some pieces in silver recently .

Etsy is also a good place to look for crafts persons selling their own work

thanks. I've tried etsy but can't seem to get the filter right for searching UK only. Some of the overseas p&p charges are £££
