What style of glasses do you wear?

I'm having trouble choosing some new glasses at the moment. The bold plastic frames seem to be very popular at the moment but they're not really me. What made you choose the glasses you wear?

Mine are black plastic, slightly cat eye shaped. Chose them because they suit my face and colouring and came in a smaller size so not too wide for my face.

Mine are very old Cutler and Gross ones. Yes the plastic frame. I really need some new ones, but they are expensive.

Versace tortoiseshell cat eye shape things. I like 'em :)

I bought glasses today. I find it really hard as 95% of everything I try on looks pretty bad. I think I have a wide head so lots of frames are too narrow for me. I also hate how it forces me to acknowledge my wrinkles. Grin

Over the last 10 years I have had a series of predominantly black or black/white plastic frames. I think there might have been a dark red pair at some point too. Today's purchase is dark purple and slightly more curvy and less square than its predecessors. However it was the first pair I tried on today after about 10 mins that I instantly thought suited me.

Here they are:

These are my new ones and I bloody love them.

They're retro and unusual. Like me Grin

I had a fabulous pair of Cutler & Goss black plastic frames years ago. I'm wearing D&G tortoise shell plastic frames which are quite bold looking.

Thanks for the replies. I have small features so I think I need to choose something small and understated but looking at all the frames in the shop nothing seemed to suit me.

I have had a few years of understated metal frames but never really felt they suited me.

Am now back in some bold "geek chic" tortoiseshell plastic frames and I love them.

Here is my advice. Go try some on and try on lots when you get down to a few pairs approach a friendly looking stranger person also trying on glasses and ask their opinion. They will likely be honest ( and they have no preconceptions about you so they are strictly judging what they see) and if they are also buying glasses they understand how hard/important it is to get it right.

I'm currently wearing a pair of retro geek chic ones from Specsaver, having sat on my expensive decent metal framed ones recently! I needed a pair asap and Specsavers were brilliant at getting them sorted so quickly.

They cost £45!!!! Even better, when I put them on my DS1 (who is 20 and not given to complimenting mother) said they looked good! I do feel a bit like I'm channelling my dad circa 1976, but it does seem the bigger frames are back in!

I wear ray ban wayfarer 5184s they come in two widths for the small of face

I went in 190 different glasses shops. I tried on loads and took a pic of myself in each and a pic of the code in the inside of the arm do I knew which was which. Then I went home and looked for a picture where I didn't look minging. Then I bought them online for £100 less than they were in the posh shop

Vibbe · 07/10/2013 21:24

I have these in brown/light

I've worn this type of frames since I was around 12 and I prefer the shape and colour on my face.

I like rimless specs, the more invisible the better

A lovely, slightly cat eyed, black Dior pair.
