Corporate champagne reception at the races this weekend... (outs self)

Do I dress for a wedding? Hat too?? I have a green silk zara dress I can wear but may need a jacket ( don't think cropped leather will cut it!?) black opaques and shoe boots? Or is that, like, totally dullsville?

Am 5'6", fatter than I like(16-18), decent legs n Norks, podgy middle, long bob, clear winter colours. Really want a red anglomania dress but have about £100 to spend.
Please help, if you can be bothered.

Oh and No time to shop, online only!!!
Thx

I'm imagining it's probably York, Newmarket or Goodwood rather than Wolverhampton, Hexham, Chepstow or Ffos Las.

If it is any in the former category, a wedding would be a reasonable yardstick if you're concerned about it. Hat definitely not essential (usually identifies the novices and the Mrs Bouquets). You don't need to overdress, just smart and you will often have a bit of walking to do, at least if you want to enjoy the day and see more than just the inside of the box, so wear shoes or boots you won't want to burn by the end of the day. Dress, trousers, skirt - there is no right/wrong thing - if you're happy with how you look, you'll be fine.

If it's any of those tracks in the latter category, they would be far more casual and a decent pair of trousers, boots etc would be fine. Be comfortable - you could dress smartly if you wanted, but avoid dressing up because you'd definitely be in the minority.

Wherever you are going, enjoy it and don't worry too much about how you dress - it's not the dressed-up day out you might imagine - once high summer is over there aren't many race days like Royal Ascot or Glorious Goodwood. Most courses take a dim view of sportswear and sometimes jeans, so to avoid being told you're not dressed appropriately for a particular enclosure, avoid these. Other than that, pretty much anything goes, so if you're reasonably tidy, you'll be fine and you will see all sorts - there is great diversity of outfits and people on a racecourse.
Have fun - it's a great day out!

Thanks! (it's the first list not second) That's really helpful, so my dress, opaques, leather jacket, new big scarf, gloves and some new shoes/boots with sensible heel will do! No hat woo hoo! Maybe a new clutch. So everything!!! But I had a better idea now!

Definitely something that will keep you warm too.

Pointy heels will just sink into the grass so a sensible wedge or heel is best !
