Iron that works!

I've bought irons, steamers, steam irons but no joy. Creases don't come out and I often end up with 'sheen' marks that ruin shirts, dresses etc.

Often on S&B people talk about ironing everything. I also have a friend who seems to be able to iron everything so that it's fresh and crisp looking. Please, please tell me which iron you use to do this. I feel like it's some secret amazing iron that only those in the know use.

Please tell me your ironing secrets!

The only thing I iron on a regular basis is dh's Thomas Pink shirts for work - they are a right bitch to iron - I used to have to completely soak them with water spray until I got a Rowenta steam generator. Time per shirt has gone from 7mins to 3mins and it does a great job. If I ever want to iron anything tricky I use the steam only and Hoover the iron over the garment rather than touching it. Downside is that is takes at least 5 mins for the iron to heat up, so it's not really suitable for a quick impromptu iron every morning.

I have this one. It's brilliant. Cheap irons are just not worth it, you might as well save your dosh and not bother.

Sheen marks are usually from having the iron set too hot, incidentally, rather than a problem with the iron itself Grin

I use a damp piece if cotton sheeting in between the iron and the fabric to avoid a sheen....worth testing on a spot that won't be noticed when you are ironing something for the first time.

I have this

It's reduced at the moment.

I brought this one recently and its fab! It has gone up in price on Amazon now but you might be able to find it on offer elsewhere.

Its better than any steam generator I've used before. Really powerful, lots of steam, large water capacity, lots of temperature options, steam levels etc.

You can buy spray starch too

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/10/2013 17:29

Spray starch helps, as does drip drying shirts.

Apparently ironing is all about a little bit of steam and lots of lean, as in leaning on the garment.

There's probably a video tutorial on youtube.

Totally FAB.
