My hair hates me!!!!!!!!!!

We've had our ups and downs, but now it's outright war! I've put a keratin treatment on it, used 3-day straight on it, moroccan oil, KMS humidity seal (all individually, all together at the same time, allllllll combinations!) and STILL it bloody frizzes up on the seven minute (yes, just SEVEN) walk to school. I think I'm destined to have to wear it up for the rest of my bloody life or just never, ever leave the house again. Which isn't an option really Sad. Rant over.

it's very humid at the moment (In London anyway).

I think the thing about hair is you need to work with what you've got - there's no point in fighting it, embrace it!

Eliza22 · 04/10/2013 10:34

BeCool, I agree. I have poker straight hair. It refuses to bend and as a teenager (51 now) I had a "Crystal Tips & Alistair" perm because I was determined it would obey me.

It never did.

I don't hanker after Pre-Raphaelite curls anymore. It's pointless. I have to embrace the seal-sleek yes, it is! locks was genetically blessed with Wink

BeCool · 04/10/2013 10:40

I have wavy hair - oh the years I wasted trying to get it to go & stay straight (this was pre-straighteners).

Actually last time I had it cut the hairdresser used straighteners on me. It looked amazing!! And stayed that way for all of 10 minutes after I left :)

Embrace the straight/waves/curls or whatever it is you have been blessed with. You can spend a fortune and lots of energy fighting it but I don't believe they will ever invent hair products that will really be able to undo nature. And it just makes you unhappy/frustrated in the process.

I use oils and for the most part they keep it in check! At the moment I'm using mongongo oil (also known as manketti oil). I think its probably the best I have found so far.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 04/10/2013 12:48

have you tried the brazilian keratin straightening stuff, lots of threads about it... tis fab I have straight smooth hair now Grin

AutumnLeafMyArse · 04/10/2013 12:57

Love the name of your oil cedge Smile. Sadly I have tried the keratin StepAway. Maybe it was a particularly humid morning today...

My hair is similar - I feel your pain. I resort to wearing a beanie hat whilst outside. Keeps the top flat and smooth, and I tuck the rest into my coat! Or combine with hood up too! People look at me as though I'm mad if it's not raining, but it works.

Also - the products you mention all contain silicones - which are great for smoothing hair as they coat each strand with a shiny plasticky substance. The problem is they build up on your hair, don't wash out very well and prevent hair from absorbing water, so it becomes lank and dry. Give your hair a detox from them and only use every third wash or so. Your hair needs to be properly clean from the root to tip to be swishy. Have you tried pure oil as a pre wash treatment? This seems to thicken my hair and make it hang straighter and frizz less. Products like Moroccanoil and Extraordinary Oil do contain oil but also silicones, so lovely for styling but for a deep conditioning treatment you can't beat pure oil - try coconut oil from the food section, or just olive oil is fine too. A couple of teaspoons, massaged through hair from root to tip, left as long as poss then washed out. Also find a good protein based deep conditioner like Kerastase Masquintense and use that weekly.

And wean yourself off the straighteners, they're damaging your hair so much you're fighting a losing battle!

smoothieooo · 04/10/2013 13:27

This is the link to the Brazilian hair straightening stuff. I also suffer from The Frizz and will invest in some of this (despite some of the shocking 1 star reviews)!

AutumnLeafMyArse · 04/10/2013 14:29

Ooh Shredded I didn't know the oils had the silicones in them. When you wash the olive oil or coconut oil out do you just rinse or do you have to shampoo it out? I'm using a Kerastase product to protect the ends of my hair which is heat activated but I've not got a deep conditioner so I'll definitely give it a go.

I know the hair straighteners are bad for me and I've been weaning myself off them. I've been wearing my hair up for the past 6-7 weeks religiously (only straightening my fringe) so I've done really well in that respect. The keratin treatment has definitely softened my hair a lot and it feels a bit more swishy (except near the ends, I wonder if I burned them a bit when I did the keratin?). It doesn't need nearly as much straightening when I do wear it down now plus I always use the straighteners on their lowest setting, so I'm doing much better than I used to. I used to straighten my hair every single day Shock.

get the ends trimmed off before they split up the shaft. worth it to lose the frizz, I too use GHD's and have to get the ends off regularly if I want to look human.

BerryBlast · 05/10/2013 11:47

Bumping - because I have the exactly the same problem :) I don't want to embrace my inner curl (which isn't actually a curl, but a limpish wave). Common ladies, surely someone must know of something that actually works....pretty please Smile

DameFellatioNelson · 05/10/2013 11:50

I suffered terribly from fine, fly-away frizzy hair and I've recently switched to sulphate free shampoo which has helped massively. My hair still goes curly (nice) or frizzy (not nice) in the damp or extreme humidity, but generally speaking it is much more managable.

awaywego1 · 05/10/2013 14:07

Mines awful - big frizzy coarse wave as soon as I step outside even after bloody ages straightening, oils, hairspray, serums. It looks particularly bad at the moment and worse because I have a full fringe which is just a kinky frizzy mess.
Tigi blow out balm seems to be the thing that helps the most but im still far from looking groomed!

AutumnLeafMyArse · 05/10/2013 15:47

I'm sat here with extra virgin olive oil on my hair, my head wrapped in clingfilm with a towel on top to keep some heat in. Mmmmmm, I look very naice Grin Just hope I can get the oil to wash out and that it makes a difference to the condition of my hair.

AutumnLeafMyArse · 05/10/2013 18:05

So I left the oil on my hair for 2 hours, washed it out thoroughly and then conditioned my hair. It's now blow-dried only, no straighters. It's actually really very soft and has got more swish to it! I can still see some split ends which I'll get trimmed off at my next appointment with the hairdresser, but overall I'm pretty impressed!

Amla oil is your friend.

Cheap as chips and it's just wonderful. Put it on dry hair, leave in a warm towel for an hour, wet it a little and add shampoo, wash well then condition.

My hair is dyed and it's been really fluffy the past few weeks, but I used some oil today and it's really sleek :)
