please could someone recommend one. I hate wearing foundtion as it makes my skin feel greasy and heavy. I tend to use powder although it doesnt cover my spots very well and can look a bit dull.So can anyone recommend one that feels light, non greasy and wont make me break out in spots

Laura Mercier
Bobbi Brown

bakedpotato · 28/06/2006 11:48

mac foundation feels very light but good coverage

katierocket · 28/06/2006 11:52

loads of people will pile on in a minute and tell you that Chanel Vitalumiere is the bees knees but it is still foundation.

Radley · 28/06/2006 11:53

I used avon sheer tinted moisturiser over moisturiser which is fab and i have also started using dove fake tan which i rub over my face too.

MrsBadger · 28/06/2006 12:03

I must confess I've given up on this quest - I tried cheap ones, expensive ones, moisturising ones, mattifying ones, antispot ones (I break out too), and they were all a bit crap. Powder just got swamped by my oily skin.
The powder foundations were the closest I came to a one-step solution and it might be worth trying a few to see if any suit you.

Now I use foundation and powder for special occasions and nights out only (Clinique - think it's Gentle Light Makeup or some such, and cheapo 17 powder).
For everyday I just wear Benefit Boi-ing concealer on eyebags and spots, and if looking particularly haggard their Lemon Aid eye stuff and It Stick pencil for the wrinkles - have found that if your eyes look perky the spots are much less noticeable!

eidsvold · 28/06/2006 12:08

i found a nutri metics one fab. nice and light.

brimfull · 28/06/2006 12:11

I use bobboi brown tinted moisturiser, nice coverage not heavy, spf 15,good natural colour.

sweetmonkey · 28/06/2006 12:14

i never wear foundation as i worry about the lines and not blending it in properly. are there any tips as im cack with make up. i try light ones but still see lines around my jaw line etc

Piffle · 28/06/2006 12:23

benefit benetint is good, it looks bright orange when you put it on, but it does lok good once blended
Also Clarins one is very nice.
I confess though I use vitalumiere mixed with olay daily radiance moisturiser, it is great sheer dewy coverage!

purpleprincess · 28/06/2006 12:29

Boots No 7 Intelligent colour foundation is good - doesnt feel like real foundation and very easy to put on. The idea is that is adapts to your own colour tone so very natural. Upside is not too expensive either and you get/can use Boots points.

mum2sam · 28/06/2006 13:41

is it best to put it on with your hands or do you use a sponge

orangegiraffe · 28/06/2006 13:44

I use the boots botanics tinted moisturiser and its lovely, not greasy or to over the top.
Sometimes they have buy one get one free on offer at boots especially on that range.

cardy · 28/06/2006 14:27

It depends on how much you want to spend. Boots no. 7 Intelligent colour is good and less than £10, if you have a bit more to spend I have Bobbi Brown, Clinque and Clarins all equally as good.

sweetmonkey · 28/06/2006 14:29

do they leave lines though? whats the best way to apply foundation? i really would like to wear it and have had a makeover in boots but when it comes to doing it myself i think it either looks obvious im wearing it, my face is a diff colour to my neck or i have lines

cardy · 28/06/2006 14:41

I don't think tinted moisturisers leave lines in the same way foundations do. The intelligent colour one is really easy to apply with fingertips and doesn't look at all obvious.

Gillian76 · 28/06/2006 14:43

I found the Clarins tinted moisturiser very good, but quite expensive IIR. Body shop do one in their Vitamin E range that might be cheaper to try out. They are very subtly in colour so I doubt lines would be a problem.

sweetmonkey · 28/06/2006 14:54

i have the elizabeth arden let there be light tinted moisturiser but it doesnt gve a full coverage just a dewy look.

i had a free sample of the no7 stuff but think the colour was too dark for me

i must sound so thick not being able to apply make up

MrsBadger · 28/06/2006 14:57

NB for those of us with oily spot-prone complexions (like the OP and me), 'dewy' is not always a good look!

Things described as 'velvety' tend to be more matte and forgiving.

sweetmonkey · 29/06/2006 09:40

also i tend to go red v quickly, for no particular reason. can be heat, something ive eaten or when im feeling shy, or if i have an alcoholic drink. ive tried benefit bluff it stick which sort of helps but a foundation that would cover the redness would be good. any ideas

kando · 29/06/2006 09:50

I second the No7 intelligent colour foundation, and also liked the Botanics tinted moisturiser. I'm also trying the No7 tinted moisturiser - it's OK but not as nice (or as light) as the intelligent colour. I always put foundation on with my fingers - dot it round my face (like my mum used to do!) and smooth it on. To avoid lines, I always make sure I smooth it under my jawline, and right up into the hairline.

If you want to "try before you buy" why not ask at the cosmetic counters for samples? If they say they don't have any, buy some of those little travel pots and ask them to put some inside - I've done that a few times and never had anyone refuse me! Good luck!

Gillian76 · 29/06/2006 14:16

I agree with the suggestion of going and asking for advice. A good trick is to say "it's my birthday next week and DH is going to buy me some foundation as a gift". That way there's no pressure to buy.

And go to several counters.

sweetmonkey · 29/06/2006 16:53

Yeah i am going in tonight after work so will have a look. will speak to the No7 lady and the benefit one as they seem to be the ones mentiond most on here

mazzystar · 29/06/2006 16:59

if you want something very light and sheer, clinique almonst makeup is very subtle. also i've recently tried the new rimmel one with kate moss being a dirty stopout in the ad) - and to my utter surprise its fabulous - people have commented on my appearance of wellness whilst wearing it, amazing considering i'm 9 weeks pg and feel like hell

sweetmonkey · 29/06/2006 17:00

My main problem is i have an oily t zone and my cheeks flush v quickly. want something to cover that up more than anything
