Bronzer novice (and scared...)

Is it possible to use this to make yourself look health and glowy? Or will I always look like an extra from TOWIE?

I have pale skin (usually one of the palest 1 or 2 in large foundation ranges but of a golden/yellow type tone rather than alabaster IYSWIM) and blue/grey eyes. In theory I think bronzer might be good on the days when I want to wear a little make up without looking made up. But all the bronzers in the shops seem soooo dark that they make me panic just looking at them.

I am very new to make up so still not overly confident at actually looking like I'm wearing make up, so bronzer scares me greatly.

Can anyone recommend a) a bronzer for my skin tone and b) how I actually apply it so I don't look orange? Or should I just steer well clear and stick to blusher?

I like the mua bronzers, I use shade 1 and I'm fairly pale (cool Ivory in no7) with blue/grey eyes. I use a big brush to apply it to cheekbones then sweep across forehead and down nose. Even better, it's only £1!

Ideally you need 2 bronzers. One matte shade to give colour and add warmth and then a shimmery one to give the glow in certain areas.

The Body Shop do good matte bronzers and something like the baked bronzer or bronzing beads applied sparingly on tops of cheekbones would give a glow instead of that dipped in orange shimmer look Wink

Guerlain do great bronzers for pale skin. Also dr hauschka bronzer is good for pale skins. I use bare minerals "warmth" as a bronzer, it's loverlee.

MoominCow - what are the 'certain areas' of which you speak? Cheek bones?

Can/should I put blusher on top or is it an either/or thing?

Thank you lovely helpful S&Bers!

Yes cheekbones, temples. You can dab a 'pop' of blusher on the apples of cheeks too - helps lift the face and looks a bit more natural IYSWIM

I second moomin's advice. I'm quite pale and use the body shop bronzer. Other bronzes had anyways given me the 'TOWIE' look

*always give me

I went in for a Bobbi Brown foundation and came out with their bronzer in a shade called 'aruba'. Not sparkly but not matte either (sort of glowy). I never buy expensive cosmetics on the spur of the moment but I was really impressed with it. They do free make up sessions if you want to try things out.

Are you pale skinned bewleysisters?

ThisIsMeNow · 02/10/2013 19:33

I would YouTube contouring for ideas where to put it.
Use a large soft brush, circling the bronzed then tap the brush firmly to rid excess.
Very lightly brush the areas you decide to highlight. Try and do this in natural light so you can see how you're doing.
You can always add more but it's a bugger to take it off! Grin

OP, maybe a shade or two darker than you but yellow-toned too. Think it comes in several colour-ways but the porcelain skinned salesperson who helped me also wears this shade.

Thank you - this is all really helpful. I shall brave it and give it a go!
