Smart ankle boots, to wear with skirts

OK, OK, so I know it's a divisive issue, but I quite like the look, and am after some smart black ankle boots to wear for work with skirts (knee-length or above).

My knee-length ones from last year just feel frumpy now.

My trusty Top Shop Mighty ankle boots are lovely but just aren't smart enough.

I bought these (OK, they are K; don't judge me for my bunions), but they are a bit wide around the top (someone used the phrase "twig in a plant pot" which sums up the look nicely) so may be going back.

I'm after something black leather, not too high, ideally less than £80, and (I guess) reasonably close-fitting around the ankle.

I'm aware I am straying dangerously close to mum-boot territory, so please help me out!

Bumping this for the evening crowd for you, as I'm after something similar!

These are what you want! I have them in brown and they look ace with my skirts/dresses - which are tulip or pencil and to the knee or just above.

I know they look too low but there is something about hw they look on which tricks the eye into thinking they are higher. And they are so comfy. The girls in Office said they were huge sellers. Btw - if you order online, go up a size.

Charitygirl your link didn't work - please can you repost? Or let us know the name of the boot? Cheers.

To me, all of the above look too high up the calf for wearing with skirts, unless you're going for the saloon girl/chim chimnee look Grin.
I like Ash Spirals as they're cut low in the front anddon't chop your legs short. Or shoeboots like these, which are much nicer in the brown suede version. M&S also have some kitten heeled styles which are truly ankle rather than calf height.
(I suspect there've been loads more posted by now).

Trying again...

I like those Betsy, a lot. Do they feel safe to stride confidently around town in, or are they a bit tottery? They look quite high

charitygirl · 02/10/2013 21:36

I think those Next ones look a bit tarty.

justabigdisco · 02/10/2013 21:43

I do think some of these are veering into 'mum boot' territory. I like the office ones though. Good to know that they look good with skirts.

charitygirl · 02/10/2013 21:53

Yay! They really look tres current, disco. Dare I say it, I looked coltish.

justabigdisco · 02/10/2013 22:04
Grin
CointreauVersial · 02/10/2013 23:05

Grin Bad form, eh? Start a thread then vanish for 10 hours......

Thank you for the suggestions. I like the Uncanny Office ones, although they look like they might be better with jeans or casual skirts; definitely contenders, though....

I also like the first M&S ones linked. And the Next ones are promising, although I have a slight aversion to buckle-y accessories.

Not sure about suede either....also not sure if higher-up-the-calf looks better than shoe-boot-y......aaargh.

Any more inspiration?

Lol at mum boot. I am the inventor of the term. I know a mum boot

BetsyBidwell · 03/10/2013 02:13

Shit. Not the foot glove

BetsyBidwell · 03/10/2013 02:16

Office ones ok but have been around for years. My topshop version us on year 3.

charitygirl · 03/10/2013 05:59

I know - very Hudson but without all the wanky stylings. But still looking less dated than big heels, esp this winter.

beepoff · 03/10/2013 08:52

What's wrong with wearing boots that have been out for 3 years? If we all slavishly bought new we'd look like we got dressed in c&a in 1995 at the moment... Whose idea was it to bring back the worst of 90s fashion?!

justabigdisco · 03/10/2013 12:13

Which topshop ones, Betsy?

BetsyBidwell · 03/10/2013 12:15

Ambush. They were called. Black viwboy heel
