CO washing advice, and also SLS Free Shampoos - which don't strip hair?

Hi,

I have been CO washing on and off for a couple of years, however I have destroyed my hair by using semi permanent hair dye Hmm and now am faced with a hideous, bushy, crispy mess. My hairdresser was horrified the last time I went Shock

My hair is wavy and has a great deal of canopy frizz / bushiness, but is actually quite fine underneath.

Today I started using Naked shampoo and conditioner - the conditioner is great, but the shampoo left my hair matted, dry and unpleasant.

The problem I have with CO washing is that my hair does become gungey and clogged after a while - I don't really get why, as I CO washed happily for about 10 months, then it all went wrong (after becoming pregnant with DS3 - dunno if there's a link there?) DS3 is now 17 months so I can't really blame this on pregnancy or baby stuff!!!

I am very particular about rinsing and massaging scalp with finger pads when CO washing, and make sure it's rinsed properly, and then some for good measure.

The best conditioner I use is Body Shop Banana (not the shampoo though as it has SLS and parabens) but it does go gungey after a short time.

So, I am searching for a "clean" CO friendly conditioner - and it isn't working anymore. I need to use Cone free, Paraben free (this does make a noticeable difference) and also SLS free products.

I do not use any styling products really, as they crispify my hair noticeably.

These are some of the products I've used - verdicts below

Sainsbury's own brand Apple Conditioner - I was great with this for months, then suddenly it stopped working (thought perhaps pregnancy is an issue here?)

Tresemme Naturals Conditioner - great at first, but hair became really unpleasant and dull after a while

Body Shop Banana Conditioner - this is my CO of choice, but even this becomes clogged and gungey after a while.

Body Shop Rainforest - OK for a few CO "washes" but then went clogged and gungey

Timotei Naturals Conditioner - a good "clean" conditioner, but not enough conditioning for my now matted crisp hair Sad

Pantene Natural (or summat) shampoo and conditioner - the shampoo has SLS, but it stripped my hair horribly.

Timotei Organic Delight Shampoo and Conditioner - literally The Worst Shampoo I have ever used Shock so much so that I complained to Boots. It took 2 weeks intensive argan oil (pure, organic, not Moroccan Oil type silicone stuff) to get my hair back to a decent state.

Have also done pure organic coconut oil treatments, and didn't really get on with it.

I can accept that I need to use shampoo occasionally to refresh my hair, but ideally I'd like a SLS free one which does actually moisturise my hair, and not make my frizz worse.

My hair was lovely and swishy finally, after years of fuzz and crisp. And then I dyed it cos of a few grey hairs. It is awful now WTF!!!!

The Dr Organic range in Holland & Barrett has a lot of fans. Good price, too; I use the Rose shampoo and conditioner.

Tigi Superstar shampoo is meant to be very good and seems to always be in TK Maxx, I've bought a bottle to try when my Dr Organic runs out.

Thanks for that. Does the Dr Organic shampoo strip your hair? I've looked online, and it does get some reviews which say it can make hair matted. I'll try the conditioner definitely. Also they have pure Argan Oil on offer just now, so I can nip there tomorrow...

I am wondering if some of my hair problems are caused by cheap Argan Oil I bought on Amazon recently? My hair was lovely, then suddenly turned in a a matted crispy frizz overnight. Perhaps it isn't pure, perhaps it contains silicone - which does definitely dry out my hair Confused
