Work Social at Thorpe Park - please tell me what's appropriate!

It's quite a conservative company, although very pleasant and reasonable. I need to be prepared for wet, cold, or at least overcast weather, and I need to look reasonably presentable. I have never been to a theme park before so I don't know what would be practical, and I've never been to a work-related thing in street clothes so I'm not sure what's acceptable.

I'm a size 10, quite short, very hourglassy (so anything cleavage-exposing is out), with long hair, Mediterranean colouring, and a smart-but-distinctively-goth wardrobe outside of work.

Things to choose from:

  • 3/4 sleeve linen t-shirts in black, dark grey, claret, and forest green;
  • Cowl necked, very drapey 3/4 sleeve t-shirts in black or oxblood;
  • Layering vest tops in charcoal, silver-grey, lavender, dark blue, or black;
  • Black floaty (slightly waterfall-ish in an All Saints way) viscose cardigan;
  • Black silk velvet blazer with slightly crucifix-y buttons;
  • Very slim-fit straight leg trousers in cranberry or indigo needlepoint cord;
  • Black jeans in slim-fit straight leg or skinny styles;
  • Navy blue wool military coat;
  • Dark green waxed jacket;
  • Dr Marten 6 hole boots in black patent or metallic purple (non-negotiable for medical reasons);
  • Many scarves - navy with burgundy hearts, pale blue/black tie dye, huge monochrome newsprint-style roses, plain grey pashmina, and blotchy grey with CND symbols all over it (last one probably not appropriate).

I also normally wear lots of jewellery outside of work - either black pearl necklace or 2-3 silver pendants layered, plus a heavy silver charm bracelet stacked with some leather/gemstone friendship bracelets, and about 4 rings. I normally have my hair down but think it looks ok in a high ponytail, and wear very natural make-up aside from a fair bit of eyeliner.

Any advice much appreciated!

Should probably add - I'm early 20s, as are a couple of my colleagues, and everybody else is mid 30s - late 40s.

Slim fit jeans with linen t shirt scarves and jewellery. Its a casual day out so some originality in your clothing is allowed.

The only thing id struggle with off your list is a suitable coat. They all seem like they'd be too heavy you want something lightweight and shower proof. I should imagine mosy others will be wearing variations on jeans and t shirt with sturdy shoes for the walking snd being on your feet all day.

You are definately doing the theme park part and not something in the "events" marquee thing that they have there? Have they told you exactly what you are doing for the day?

Thank you both!

You make a good point about coats, Dntletmegetyoudown - the only other thing I have that isn't wildly inappropriate is a (bright orange) rain mac, but I don't think it would keep me warm enough... Hmm The wax jacket may do though if I wear it open, since I'm a complete wuss in the cold. I'm glad to hear that the linen t shirt will be appropriate - the cowl neck tops are nice but very much on the smart end of the smart-casual spectrum, and I think they'd take a long time to dry if any of the rides involved water!

Random - thank you for checking, it's definitely just the theme park part (as a celebratory thing).

Just don't do what I did - get shitfaced by 11am and take your top off on the water ride. 5 years later it is only occasionally mentioned...

Thorpe Park usually has a breeze chill factor to it so I'd check the forecast on the morning that you are going. Seems a very odd choice between my sinuses and back back/neck I really can't go on very many rides at all!

Oh and Tidal Wave, you will get completely drowned even with a bright orange raincoat on Grin
