Some bra questions

I am in desperate need of some new bras.

I am currently BF DS2 and will probably carry on until he's one - so another three months. I have two Bravado nursing bras which I wear day-in-day-out. They are stretchy and comfy and ugly and I am really looking forward to getting back into normal, pretty underwear!

I have just thrown all my old bras in the bin so can start totally fresh.

So my questions are..

Where are the best places to go bra shopping? I am a SAHM so can't afford Rigby and Pellar etc. M&S? Debenhams? Which brands are good and which are to be avoided?

I have no idea what bra size I am (or will be when I finish BF) so will need to get measured. I guess I am around a 34A. Where is a good place to get measured? Are measurements standard - so will a 34A from one shop be the same as a 34A from another shop?

HOW should my bra fit? Should I be wearing it on the tightest setting? I always seem have to extend the straps to their longest length, despite being small-chested and of average height. Is there a reason for this, or do I just have a really l-o-n-g chest?

Thanks! :)

The bra ladies will be along in a minute but fitting advice is here
Don't get fitted at M&S, they wouldn't know a well fitting bra if it pinged them in the eye.

Measure yourself as per MN Bra Guru

Then hang about abit and sorrell or StatisticallyChallenged et all will pop along and give you the best advice your boobs have ever had.

believe in the tape measure!

ilovepowerhoop · 29/09/2013 20:27

I sincerely doubt that you are a 34A as that means only a 1 inch difference between your under bust size and your over bust measurement. You may have to extend the strap size as the cup size is far too small. Measure under and around the fullest part of your bust and we will tell you what sizes to try

prettybird · 29/09/2013 20:29

Unless you genuinely are flat chested, I can almost guarantee that you are not an A cup.

That would mean that your "Over Boob" measurement is only an inch more than your "Over ribs" measurement.

I'll leave it to the experts to describe how you can go about working out what size you should be wearing.

prettybird · 29/09/2013 20:29

obviously I'm a slow typer Blush

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 29/09/2013 20:34

I am very flat chested! Unless my baby is due a feed :-)

I am in bed now (said baby does not sleep so I am hoping an early night might help me function better tomorrow) but will do some measuring tomorrow morning.

M&S told me they did not make nursing bras small enough to fit me so am happy to give them a miss!!

Couldn't resist...

Am 32.5 inches under my bust and 34 over their fullest point. But my boobs are bigger now than they will be when i stop bf

M&S dont measure properly so if they fitted you for a bra it would probably have been the wrong size anyway! They routinely add 4" to the back size which makes the back size too big and then that would make the cup size too small.

ilovepowerhoop · 29/09/2013 20:42

32B then maybe. Did you bend over to measure the fullest part of your bust?

SorrelForbes · 29/09/2013 21:16

Yep, try a 32B which is the same cup volume as a 34A but should fit better around the back.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 30/09/2013 10:53

Ok so I have a much better idea of my size now - thank you. Will measure properly once my boobs are back to their normal size.

So where is best to go bra shopping?
