A warmish jacket for when you don't need a coat

I'm looking for something casual to wear with Jeans as an extra layer either when the weather like it is now and you just need a bit more than a T-shirt or when you're going somewhere in winter where you won't be outdoors much - the pub or for coffee etc.

Casual enough to wear with jeans and converse, but nicer than a fleece or hoodie. Ideally soft enough to be comfortable, but structured enough to be the sort of thing that turns trousers and a top into an "outfit"! Even better if it could pass as indoor clothing so I'm not expected to remove it when visiting relatives with freezing houses Grin

Not black or brown. Does it exist?

Jersey blazer or biker?

PractialJoke · 28/09/2013 14:27

Yes, exactly that kind of thing Remust, but every one I've tried on looks kind of saggy and shapeless

Um jersey blazer? I've been wearing a navy Whistles one lately which is a nice thick fabric and goodfor the current weather.

MinesAPintOfTea · 28/09/2013 14:32

I've just bought £40 worth of cotton corduroy and a pattern to make my own after struggling to find what I have in mind.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 28/09/2013 14:32

Whistles one - def not shapeless/baggy although looks weirdly so in that photo.

I'm an hourglass so have to hunt high and low for shapely jackets (or anything really). This one has a lovely cut and a rounded hem which makes itmore feminine also.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 28/09/2013 14:35

I'm envious of you, Mines. I've known or a lng time exactly the cut of clothes that suit me, but am daunted at the thought of shopping gor fabric and pattern and sewing things myself. Which are the best make of pattern to use?
(Sorry for hijack).

MinesAPintOfTea · 28/09/2013 14:44

I usually go for simplicity patterns (the jacket I'm making is mostly C from this pattern, or Vogue do a set of "very easy" patterns. Your local fabric shop (or John Lewis harberdashery) will have pattern books which are catalogues for patterns. You pick it out and they find the envelope from the drawer for you to buy.

I have no natural ability at this unlike DM who ran my wedding dress off without using a single pattern but its all sewing by numbers.

Start with some cheap fabric and just go for it. If you have an OK electric sewing machine then its fairly easy.

PractialJoke · 28/09/2013 14:45

I like that whistles one, but was hoping for something a bit more interesting. I'm not good with accessories, so the clothes have to do the work Smile

I've found this pink leather one

Or this very slouchy one

Neither are really what I was looking for, but I'm close to giving up. what do you think?

I'm getting a lot of wear out of this one but it's black.

What about this? I wear mine with jeans and a top and pumps or converse with a big scarf.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2013 15:11

That's lovely, LittleMiss.

littlemissnormal · 28/09/2013 15:13

Good price too

frankietwospots · 28/09/2013 15:16

Love that H&M jacket LittleMiss.

Think the 25% code expired yesterday but 1304 probably still works for a fiver off. Their sizes tend to be on the snug side with jackets and blazers.
