House of Colour - really?

So, had my colors done last week and feeling a bit bemused. I can definitely see how my colors do suit me, though they are not normally ones I would buy. I will look out for those from now on.

But, the women who did it was about as far from stylish as you can imagine. Very well put together, but OMG to the fashion sense and the make up. Horrible, trust me. I also thought the make up she had me try was awful and dated, but all the HOC lipsticks in particular looked like 80s rejects - all frosty and shimmery and colors my very aged mum would wear.

Did anyone else have an experience like this, or were you all done by women with good taste?

I had my colours done years ago, but my style was done a few years ago by a HOC lady who was definitely out of the "Classic" category. Very "Classic" indeed...

Yes, mine was very Viyella/CC IYKWIM.

I looked at their website and was a bit judgy about the way they looked and if I wasn't keen on their presentation I immediately scratched them off the very short list.

Mine was early 40s, very well put-together, discreet make up - like snowlie I looked at pictures before choosing.
I find the HoC website in general v off-putting - such poor design for a company that focuses on image, and I bet they lose potential customers as a result.
The new wave of consultants like MN's own travel and hopefully are as far from Viyella/CC/frosted lippie as you can get.
Sorry you had a bad experience, op.

I got done last sat & loved it. My consultant had v different style from me but don't think this impacts the colours that suit you. I think they should show an awareness of fashion & style though even if they don't choose it iykwim. Mine showed awareness when we we did the style bit.

My local consultant looked nothing like the picture on her webpage and I mean NOTHING.

It wasn't that I thought she had to conform to my definition of stylish, it was more that I thought she wore very unflattering clothes and make up (though in the right colours). I was going to go back for the style thing, but now know it would be pointless. She was spot on with the colours and it was worth it for that, but absolutely wrong when it came to choosing make up colors and styles.

The other client there agreed completely with me and wouldn't go back either. The HOC website is dreadful, I agree. But so are some of the bits that go with the experience. The 'leather swatch wallet' looks like something out of one of those leather look handbag with free wallet ads in the back of Take a Break, 1975!
