Perfumistas - have you tried bois des iles by Chanel?

I like the sound of it from this description and am debating whether to order some samples or not. If you've tried it is it quite very sandalwoody?

I had a sample a few years back, it was OK but didn't blow me away, it reminded me a bit of a woody no 5 - if that makes sense - and it doesn't last very long.
Cuir de Russie I loved :)

I wonder if I'd like it then?! Our tastes might be opposites. I tried Cuir de Russie and hated it. Like smelly old horses to my nose Grin.

i didnt like it that much,it smelled nice the first few times i tried, but got bored with the smell,i tried jersey and really loved it,very fresh and does not have that heavy woody smell like most les exclusifs,

Smile it's very possible! But it really doesn't last very long. My favourite thing about CDR is actually that it reminds me of the smell of my Grandparent's home - so really not a very persuasive recommendation!

I'm going to hunt out a Jersey sample, that sounds lovely

I have it and I really like it. It's definitely a winter perfume for me, and it makes me feel sort of wrapped up in richness.

Fuckitthatlldo · 27/09/2013 21:00

Yes, Bois des Iles is lovely. It's an oriental perfume with some floral notes and a prominent sandalwoody base. It's a comforting scent as Awkward alludes to above.

Personally though, I prefer Coromandel. Gorgeous, rich, vanilla amber on a spicy patchouli base. It just gets better and better as it dries down - all the notes meld together to create a lingering scent of melted white chocolate and it's just mmm.

In my opinion it is much more special than Bois des Iles, lovely though that may be.

I want to try some, as it was my grandmother's favourite perfume, and she was fabulous. I suspect it's not my kind of scent, though.

LeoandBoosmum · 28/09/2013 02:01

I NEED to smell Coromandel now! :)

Im getting a sample of Coromandel now

sansucre · 28/09/2013 04:29

Easily my favourite perfume! Definitely not one for every day wear, or for summer, but for special evenings out in winter, it's perfect.

(My mother wore it, mostly in winter (and Chanel's Gardenia in the summer, and possibly why I think Bois des iles is more of a winter perfume/wear it in exactly the same way as my mum did!)

I don't think it fades quickly either. If anything, quite the opposite. I've always felt that Chanel's special forumlas last far longer than the perfumes that are universally available.

However, it's not for everyone, and is incredibly distinctive. Along with Mitsuko, the perfume that always elicits compliments and questions asking what I'm wearing.

I tried Coromandel but sadly it did nothing for me although I really wanted it to as I'd read so much about it on here. It's so interesting, the way perfumes react so differently on us. I may give it another go though, I still have the sample.
