What the bloody hell do I dress a 6mth old baby boy in for his christening?

DS will be 6 mths old when he's christened next month. I think he's too big for any of the 'dress' rompers I've seen, he just looks a bit too old for them. But then that doesn't leave me with much choice!

Next seem to only have a 3 piece suit, mamas and papas have variations on the theme of chinos and tweed jacket which just seems wrong for a christening, and Monsoon have bugger all. All the specialist shops I've found online seem to only stock satin bloomers and bonkers hats - HELP!!!!!

I can't see how a 6 month old baby is too old for a romper. Just a nice fancy babygro will do, something like emile et rose

Ds had a long white lace frock...

A white shirt from JoJo Maman Bebe and brown cords from John Lewis (plus white socks) is what my 6mo wore to his a couple of weeks ago. We had a white family heirloom shawl to wrap round him.

The white shirt was also worn by his older brother at his christening - we only didn't recycle the trousers as we couldn't find them...

Did put white tights on underneath, mind you as it was a bit nippy

My ds wore cream trousers, shirt and sleeveless jumper. All same colour, very smart, but a super soft cotton for all three items... Didn't want silk!

I bought the outfit from this shop. The website isn't great, but the ladies are extremely helpful.

I know a little boy who was christened at a similar age in a white shirt and a tartan kilt. It looked lovely.

My ds wore the family gown for the christening itself and then a three piece linen outfit from asda for his party, if that helps at all?

John Lewis do a lovely white cashmere romper which is perfect for a christening

Mine wore this linen shirt/trousers with knitted tank top. Looked very nice and wasn't frilly.

Glad you liked it. I originally wanted something more traditional, but ds didn't suit anything. He was also 6 months and has always had too grown up a face for those kind of clothes. Ds2 doesn't look 'like he has been here before', so will maybe get something more traditional.

Curiosity - I know exactly what you mean. DS has the face of an old man. More specifically his dad! It is uncanny. It looks a bit like someone has photocopied DH's face and just sellotaped it onto the baby. DD was the same. Thankfully she's growing out of it....
