thermals...

theremustbemore · 26/09/2013 15:35

I'm cold today (live in old drafty house in Scotland) and my thoughts have turned to thermals. I had a look in M&S but they looked so frumpy I couldn't bring myself to buy them! Can anyone recommend something warm that I could use for layering? Thanks

Uniqlo heattech amazing stuff.

Also Primarni fleece lined tights.

hugoagogo · 26/09/2013 16:22

Yes uniqlo heatech are lovely, but are very similar to these at m&S.

I also got some at sainsburys last year and I love them to bits; where I work the heating is crap and everyone freezes in the winter, thermals are a godsend.

callamia · 26/09/2013 16:25

Another vote for uniqlo - I wore them camping when it hit -2 (don't ask), and I was very grateful for them.

I've got some all right M&S thermal stuff, but I did buy it a couple of years ago.

theremustbemore · 26/09/2013 16:28

Brilliant - thank you Gobblers and Hugo. Am loving all the colours! I think I'll order both Uniqlo and the M&S (which were not in my branch) and see how I get one. Feeling warmer just thinking about it!

Hmm, are you ok with non-natural fibres? Because I ordered loads of uniqlo stuff and have now given most of it away because it was too synthetic for me (sensitive soul!! Wink).

M&S have some nice vests with silk in which I got on well with.

theremustbemore · 26/09/2013 16:44

Ahhhh Jama, didn't realise that they were really synthetic, was just about to press the order button for several Uniqlo tops! Will have another think...Thanks!

I am always cold and find the M&S heatgen long sleeved tops are brilliant. I have them in lots of colours. I also couldn't survive without cashmere wristwarmers. I have a Brora pair, but my M&S pair are just as good. I'd also recommend sheepskin insoles for your boots, you can get them on eBay or Amazon.

teta · 26/09/2013 17:07

I also disliked the Uniqlo thermals as the material felt horrible on.Brora do the best thermals.Although they are synthetic the material is really nice to wear. They also wash and wear brilliantly.I tend to layer a vest top under the button down top and top with a cashmere cardigan when cold.

MrsMcGregor · 26/09/2013 17:12

Have a look here .... a little pricey but oh so warm! I bought one vest after a recommendation on here and plan to buy another as I miss it too much when it's in the wash!!

GobblersKnob · 26/09/2013 18:01

The Uniqlo stuff is synthetic, but I think it feels gorgeous on Grin It is super soft and sleek and silky, like very, very good quality expensive tights.

It is designed to be extremely thin so adds an extra layer without any bulk at all. You really don't know you are wearing them except that you are exceedingly toasty when everyone else is moaning and shivering Grin

mewkins · 26/09/2013 19:24

I find uniqlo heatgen really short in the body. Is it just me? Prefer the M&S old fashioned thermals and order a size bigger.

hugoagogo · 26/09/2013 19:41

My uniqlo come down to my gusset; but then I am a bit of a shortarse. Grin

I would agree that they are lovely and soft.

Deathbyladybirds · 26/09/2013 20:00

Mountain warehouse merino.

hugoagogo · 28/09/2013 19:26

I noticed today that primark has their own version of heat tech/gen thermals. Might be worth a look £7 for a longsleeve top.

MousyMouse · 28/09/2013 19:32

have a look at the ski section at decathlon. got some cotton rich thermals there a couple of years ago. longjohns and long sleeved pullunders.

FreeButtonBee · 28/09/2013 19:52

I do like uniqlo heat tech. I have lived in them this past year. Mine are going quite bobbly though. I don't mind too much as they are usually underneath stuff. I also like the range of colours and like the lack of irritating lacy edging.

accessorizequeen · 28/09/2013 21:48

I don't like synthetic I sweat in them. I have a couple from belladinotte & they're excellent. Wash very well, comfortable and warm. They will last for years so worth the money IMO.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 28/09/2013 22:12

I just bought some icebreaker thermals (merino), they were seriously pricey but are meant to be super warm.

BeatrixIsPotty · 28/09/2013 22:44

What are the Uniqlo sizes like? I'm usually an 8-10, do you think small would be right or are they tiny sizes?

BeatrixIsPotty · 28/09/2013 22:47

What I'm really after is a 3/4 length sleeve, wide or scoop neck thermal top, ideally in a nude colour. If anyone can point me towards one I'd be forever grateful Grin

BillyBanter · 28/09/2013 22:53

Not quite getting how uniqlo thermals are sexier than M&S.

How the hell do you actually buy something from uniqlo? Oh, ok. I see.

Where is the teal polo neck thermal she is wearing here?

www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/feature/uq/heattech/women/#fC02

Also I'm an 18 ish will the xl fit?

[temple vein explodes]

GobblersKnob · 29/09/2013 07:28

This is the polo neck.

Sizing is generous.

PasswordProtected · 29/09/2013 08:03

Patra silk thermals, light, warm, natural fibre.

hugoagogo · 29/09/2013 17:18

I used to be an 18-20 and the uniqlo xl fitted ok.

loraflora · 29/09/2013 18:46

I like uniqlo heattech because they aren't bulky. I live in them all winter. I tend to find synthetics usually quite sweat-inducing but for some reason they don't seem to bother me.
