can anything take away the redness of old spots?

hello beauty gurus.

i'm 31 weeks pregnant and suffered from very spotty skin around my chin and nose in early pregnancy. luckily my skin has improved and the spots are staying away for now (touch wood), however the redness from the old spots lives on and there's no way i can go make up free...i look a bit like i have a red goatee :( i have a good skin routine, using good facial wash, moisturiser, and i exfoliate with a gentle product and use a mask once a week.

a friend recommended bio oil for the redness but it hasn't done anything.

any ideas other than concealer? xx

I had redness left over from cold sore scars, which were noticeably lessened after a facial involving peels, can't remember what was used but it was all Eve Taylor products.
She modified what she used when I was pg though, but it might be worth talking to a beautician.
Keep on with the Bio oil though, along with massaging the area,it may help speed tissue recovery more than if you don't.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice little, I'll keep up with the bio oil then and hope it helps. I've also been suffering from cold sores on my chin and cheek as well so hopefully something might help. Yes I'll definitely try a facial once this cold sore buggers off!

Thanks again xx

A friend used Aloe Vera gel to improve the redness of her skin after teenage acne.

Rosehip oil is really good for helping old scars to fade. Also try Alpha H's Liquid Gold or a similar exfoliating toner, they really clear any spots and redness for me.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 24/09/2013 22:11

Thanks a million for the recommendations x

Clearasil do a cream especially for this. You can get it in Boots. I have tried it and it does work.

dellabob · 25/09/2013 09:58

I had exactly the same issue. The only thing thats got rid of them for me is vitamin e cream. I use the healthAid one from Amazon along with vitamin e oil,- really has got rid of them on my super sensitive skin. Pus the products are not mega expensie - so worth it!

louloubellamozzarella · 25/09/2013 14:54

Alpha H is meant to be really good - just about to purchase some myself :)

Peels might help but I don't think they do glycolic peels in pregnancy. They might do microdermabrasion, and that is like a peel, so that might help.

Belindaearl2 · 25/09/2013 21:29

Neutrogena helps

kiwik · 26/09/2013 01:03

I also suffered pregnancy acne, having never had blemished skin before it was a bit of a shock.
I used Trilogy rosehip oil, which worked pretty well.

FanjolinaJolie · 26/09/2013 03:13

Red goatee??? In that area only?

might be perioral dermatitis which is characterised with red bumps in the muzzle area.

I am taking meds for this at the moment (Doxycycline) which is not allowed in pregnancy. See your GP if it continues.

FanjolinaJolie · 26/09/2013 03:16

I would also suggest less is more WRT cleansing.

Do not exfoliate as you are irritating the skin further.

Wash with basic/gentle cleanser and water and light hypoallergenic type moisturiser.

Rubybrazilianwax · 26/09/2013 09:47

Would bio oil help?

holidayseeker · 26/09/2013 09:50

Peptabright in Boots is meant to be good for these pigmentation marks left from spots but if using a product like this or the alpha h liquid gold mentioned above then make sure you use spf everyday. I am also not sure if these should be used during pregnancy.

thanks everyone, some great recommendations :)

[[http://bravuralondon.com/dermaflannel.html Dermaflannel]

I recommend it so much on here I should get commission Grin

WhoNickedMyName · 27/09/2013 19:25

Dermaflannel

Bugger - link failure!

ModelsandMacaroons · 27/09/2013 21:46

Bio-Gel I found really helped my red spot scars. Makeup wise try a camouflage stick that is green but for some reason reduces facial redness.

Good luck Smile

Hi, I have a thread about drinking turmeric.

I came across this in my research of turmeric and it may be of help to you

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 29/09/2013 09:19

whonickedmyname thanks for the Dermaflannel ink - i've never heard of it. Do you need to use it in conjunction with one of their products? ooks like a miracle cloth!

thanks for all the advice - turmeric looks like an interesting one too!

thanks again all xx

Demalogica do a multivitamin power recovery mask, it's very good for scars etc.

MusicalEndorphins · 29/09/2013 10:08

Maybe Clinique Dark Spot Corrector?
www.clinique.com/product/4034/9287/Skincare/Serums/Even-Better-Clinical-Dark-Spot-Corrector/index.tmpl
It says old acne scars too.
I have been using for 2 days and see a difference already in a scar where I had a spot removed.

Littlefiendsusan · 29/09/2013 16:41

Sunday I'm going to try the turmeric face mask out tonight, as I've had a mega run of cold sores recently which have all left red marks.
Also, much cheaper than a facial Grin

Lazysuzanne · 29/09/2013 18:02

I'd be interested in using the clinique spot corrector but I cant help wondering how these products work?
Are they the same as skin lightening products...I thought these tended to damage the skin?
