Adult acne - help I am desperate

Can anyone help me?
I am in my late 40s and my skin has been getting steadily worse for the last 5 months. I have been on antibiotics and adapalene but there has been no improvement. I am now waiting for an appointment with a dermatologist.
It is so bad now that I really don't want to leave the house and I am becoming quite depressed- does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try while waiting for appointment?

When I suddenly developed acne in my early 20's, tried various antibiotics - tablets and creams - nothing worked. Suggested to Dr I may have PCOS and could I try Dianette. It worked a treat and as someone else said all your excess hair disappears as well! Could be worth mentioning to GP. In late 40's now and am just starting to get a little bit spotty again - great!

I know how you feel Ithastobepurple. My acne and dermatitis made me miserable. It will really help if you scale it all back and just use Cetaphil as you will be able to see what it going on - perioral dermatitis can look like acne and often pops up if you have a reaction to products. In the meantime try not to pick your skin or overload it with make up - I know it's difficult.

I really, really sympathise. I have had awful skin as an adult, and a course of roaccutane about three years ago was incredible. It was the first thing that the dermatologist suggested - having seen that I'd tried antibiotics. It was a massive relief, and the improvement was incredibly quick.

I use the lightest possible products now (avene is very nice), and have been using mineral powder for the past few months instead of foundation to cover up my rosy cheeks. I think this has also had a positive effect. Mineral powder also sits less cakily on the face than liquid foundation - and I'd tried pretty much all of them.
