Should I get a pixie cut or will I regret it?

I think (??) I have the right kind of features to suit a pixie cut - smallish, long neck, defined jaw line...but I have some questions. I've attached a pic to my profile - my hair looks a bit rubbish because it's wet, but it's the best photo I have to show my features and face shape.

Questions:

  1. Am not worried about cutting my hair as I've gone from long to short bob before, but will there be a horrible in between stage if I want to grow out a pixie? Or can this be avoided with the right cuts?

  2. Any ideas what cut I should go for? I don't want to go Jean Seberg short straight away, but don't want a half-assed in between style either - ideally it would have some length on top and some fringe. There's a slight wave in my hair. I don't mind washing it every day but am lazy with styling - 10 mins max.

  3. Do I need to choose my hairdresser very carefully? I have one that I trust, but don't know how he is with short hair. I hear a lot of people complaining about how hard it is to get a decent short cut.

  4. I've been scouring S&B for similar threads and noticed a lot of people say pixie cuts only look good on the very young (under 25 - I'm early 30s) or over 60s. Any reason or is that bollocks?

Am ready for people to tell me not to and that I'll regret it! I know for sure that I look better with short hair than long...the question is how short ;) Sorry for the epic post!

Love those cuts Leo.

TripTrap I look all wrong when my hair's past my shoulders - well, it doesn't feel like me anyway. And it's not the best quality hair so takes effort and styling not to look floppy and meh. I only like long hair when it's swishy and shiny and thick, and mine's not.

Cheers. The blond is kind of similar but a bit more messed up and off my face (too bright outside and someone had the flash on their camera too I think !)

I went from mumsy bob to pixie about 6 weeks ago. Just been back for my first trim. I really don't regret it, to the point that I can't ever imagine wanting to grow it out!

I'm 35. Pics on my profile.

Ah,that's a shame..You'd be utterly stunning with a bit of a 50's vibe to your hair

CrashPotato · 23/09/2013 16:50

Does 50's hair involve tricky updos TripTrap? I do like 50s style though have never made an effort with it beyond tiny details (am v into cropped trousers with stripy tops and thick black eyeliner, but that's as far as I get). What would short 50s hair be like? (just want to explore all my options ;))

I love my pixie cut but beware the cost of very frequent haircuts. Every five weeks for me...

CrashPotato · 23/09/2013 18:06

Good point naturelover.

I think if I go for it I might do some proper hairdresser research and maybe go for someone new and expensive the first time, then to my usual guy for maintenance. I'm sure he'll love that!

That's exactly what to do. You saw mine and (having now found a reliable local hairdresser) I pay approx. 10-12 quid every 4 weeks to have it cut so not mega expensive ! Also colour it myself to save some dosh

New to this so sorry for sounding thick but how do I look at a profile/photos?

CrashPotato · 24/09/2013 19:20

You're not being thick ironman, I've set my profile to private again as didn't want my photo up for too long. If someone's profile isn't private, you can just click on their name and it will take you to their photos etc.
