Brush for a sleek blow dry

mrsmoscow · 22/09/2013 20:07

I have a parlux hairdyer and love it but I need a brush to use with it to give me a nice sleek do!

My hair is long so a barrel brush would get tangled so was thinking of a paddle brush and maybe a ceramic one? Can anyone recommend anything? Smile

I've got the ghd one and it works well. I've got long (almost bum length) thick, wavy hair.

Iirc it was about £30.

I have a ceramic round one - best blow drying brush ever, grips the hair at any angle and it works well with my new Parlux too! It's not a nice brush for normal brushing through - too jaggy iykwim.

Thanks for replies.
Am not sure about a tangle tweezer and hair dryer- worried it might melt?!

Boar bristle paddle brushes are supposed to be the best for sleek blow drys.

Sneaky place mark

poppingin1 · 22/09/2013 21:15

I use two.

I start with the paddle brush after making four large sections which straightens the hair fine but leaves is with a puffy feel and lots of flyaway's. When all the hair has been blown out with the paddle brush I section again into four or more parts and go over it all with a barrel brush.

I have very curly hair that doesn't stay straight that long but this process is the best for getting a very sleek and shiny look that lasts much longer. It sounds time consuming but it actually makes the process faster and easier as the paddle brush does most of the work and the hard to manoeuvre barrel brush just does the finishing touches to already straightened hair.

I should also say that I use a boar bristle barrel brush and not a ceramic one. I did a year studying hairdressing and they are the best ones for a really straight style.

Place mark here too, I have grown my hair from properly short to bra strap length but haven't blow dried it for years other than blasting it upside down, but I want to start blowdrying again, however having tried a couple of times my old barrel brush that worked so well on short hair gets into a real tangle.

hashtagwhatever · 22/09/2013 21:21

second the paddle brush.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/09/2013 21:25

Do you need special blow drying paddle brushes, with vents for example, or will a regular one do?

superlambanana · 22/09/2013 23:14

I use the babyliss big hair thanks to recommendations from here. Best thing I've ever bought! Can't get my hair looking anywhere near as nice with any other brush!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/09/2013 23:18

I can't use the BBH now my hair is longer, it just gets all tangled in it. The bottom layer is OK, its the middle and top ones that are a nightmare. It was fab when it was shoulder length though.

I fucking hate blow drying my hair Confused

I don't have the patience it's really thick and long and I get too hot

I do use a round brush to try and restore a semblance of order but it still looks frizzy and shit unless I straighten it (or the hair dresser blow dries it)

I need a hairdresser to blow dry me every day ideally!

May try your suggestions of paddle brush plush ceramic round one?
