why do you have to cover your grey?
ageism will never be defeated until people are proud of their hair

Natural dyes are fab (I was a BIG henna fan) but they aren't so good at covering grey tbh. If you have only a couple, then LUSH Henna is fab stuff, but the greys always are a bit lighter and you risk an impressive orange glow once you have lots.

Having said that I went from henna to chemical colour without a hitch (just don't bleach over henna!)

Daniel Field colour is also supposed to be really good.. haven't tried it myself.

Talkinpeace..I wanted to be one of those women who aged gracefully and naturally with my greys.. but actually I just look washed out and haggard..if I had stunning silver hair I might have reconsidered but grim salt and pepper for the next 20 years.. no!

Grin I have a white stripe that shows even if I dye it so I gave up. And I'm old anyway !

I am 38 and have just cut all the henna out of my hair and now have a salt and pepper very short pixie cut, it is so much more flattering and perversly I look loads younger.

My mum at 65 has just grown out her highlights that she has been having for years, annoyingly she has less white than me Grin but the rest of her hair is kind of a steely grey, she also looks a million times better, the colour really suits and flatters her skin.

Covering the greys is not always the way to go.

Gobblers I'm ten years older than you !
BUT
coloured hair that does not match the face age just does not quite work
I see so many friends where the gents are grey and the ladies have roots ....

OP
feel free to dye as its right for you, but well cut grey or greying can look better

Depends what your natural colour is and how many greys. I have dark brown hair and only isolated greys and use Lush henna (a mixture of brown and reddish brown gives a chocolatey colour). The greys do come out quite coppery. A few months ago someone on here said a mixture of the red and black ones gives a similar colour but covers grey better, I might try that next time I buy some. I have a lot of hair though and am nervous about doing anything different to it.

I agree that properly silver or grey hair can look stunning, but when they are still only a few in amongst mainly dark brown hair it really isn't a great look.

I'm another Lush Henna user - I have (just) shoulder length frizzy hair with a few greys, not a lot. Bizarrely the grey annoys me more than other external signs of my age (I'm 47) Hmm - not sure why.

Anyhow, I use 'brun' and 'marron' 3:1 which gives my normally midbrown hair a warm-brownish colour; more auburn when the sun hits it just right.

As I wear NO make-up of any kind I find I just look tired and washed out if I leave my hair as it is.

OTOH, I had it really short a couple of years ago and lots of people told me I looked younger with the short cut, but I got bored of it Grin. Looking young is not all it's cracked up to be, but I like not looking more tired than I actually am...

I was a lush henna user (to cover salt and pepper greys) for a year or 2 till our bath waste pipe got blocked with the bits and I got fed up of the faff and smell each time. I liked the condition it left my hair but I thought the coppery look on the greys didn't really suit my complexion. So I went to chemical dyes at the hairdresser (dark brown). Problem is, I have so many greys now and it seems to grow through so quickly that for the past year I've started having to have it dyed every 10 weeks or so. And whether it is down to that or simply my age, I don't know but my hair has been falling out at a tremendous rate. I'm scared it's really damaging it so I have actually been to lush today and bought some henna - black this time, to try and get as dark a look as possible. The assistant recommended doing it for a few goes to really get the darkest colour possible on the greys as otherwise they could still look coppery she said.

hope it works!

Probably more like every 8 weeks actually, not 10. Basically every time I get my hair cut I have been getting permanent due put on.
