DMs - do they need a lot of breaking in?

I ordered some of these and they arrived today, but I really struggled to get them on. I have wide feet and bunions and stupidly tried them on after a long walk (so feet probably swollen), but still... once they were on they fitted but felt very tight across the instep and while no toes were squashed they had very little give. I'm torn... if this a common problem that can be solved with breaking in I shall hang on to them. But if not they've gotta go back. Opinions?

Stuff them with wet newspaper overnight and that should ease the breaking in process.
My old DMs, sadly, took 6 months to fully break in. I had to wear three pairs of socks to start with!
They were patent leather though so gave less.

Loads. I have some from Feb which aren't quite there yet, but TBF they don't get worn very regularly as I'm (stupidly) "saving" them. My everyday pair took about 4 months, but are well worth it - nearly 10 months on, they look practically new despite being worn in all weathers and for ridiculous amounts of walking, and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

Ok, cool. So def worth hanging on to then. They don't zip up all the way either around my chubby calves but I'm hoping they will eventually since a) I'm slimming down and b) the right one already zips higher than the left (guessing that was the display one).

If you don't mind looking a bit daft and feeling slightly odd, wear them around the house with thick, wet socks. It's the same principle as the wet newspaper but means they actually stretch to the shape of your feet and become super comfy. It's worth persevering.

I don't mind looking daft but I doubt I'd get them on at all wearing thick wet socks as they currently are! Grin

Start with thin wet socks. Or possibly wet tights. I'm not sure just wet feet would work. Try it and let me know. Lovely boots though. Worth the hard work breaking them in Smile

Excellent. Am going to try them again in the morning after a night's sleeps. I've walked about ten miles today so my feet need to go back to normal!

The newer style DMs don't last nearly as long as the old style so by the time they are fully broken in they will be worn out Sad
