After a gruelling 3 shopping days of trying on and realising Ive put some weight on and dont look as fabulous in a dress as I once did I have settled upon the following outfit.....

Black and white bold floral print strapless prom style dress - mid calf

Fab minnie mouse red round toe stilletoes with big bow on toe.

Black accessories (necklace, earrings, cute hair clips and a black bag with bow on)

Now.....here is the big question....

Do I leave the shoes as a statement being the only red in the ensemble OR..... do I add in a red waist cinching belt (which is v flattering for the ol' bod but not sure if its a bit predictable with the shoes?)

Oh, and Im aware there is an awful alot of black and white/red stuff about and there will no doubt be others there sporting black and white dresses but I did try various alternatives and just didnt feel right (fat month at the pecka household)

dress is a bit like this but longer, no net and no wide black band.

shoes are very similar to this but have round toe, not peep toe

belt is quite like this

please note all this stuff is just examples found from searching on ebay! my stuff is superior in quality of COURSE!

I would wear red lipstick and leave the belt.

I think you'll look really nice and I like those 50's style dresses too but I think it's nice to look slightly 50ish without looking retro, so that's why I wouldn't take the belt and go for a modern version of the 50ies style.

If you've put on weight, hasn't it settled around waist and tum? If so , wouldn't draw attention to it with a big belt really.

hmmm I dont know it seemed to look a bit better. Gave me more of a waist rather than the up and down'ness that I have developed!

So would I,you have to be careful that reds match exactly plus you are right about the shoes then having a 'wow' factor.

Every do I've been to recently all the women wear white linen trousers. It's like a uniform.

sugarfree · 23/06/2006 19:54

If you must wear a belt, can it be black?

UberCodofWashingFame · 23/06/2006 19:55

no idea

pecka · 23/06/2006 19:55

aha!! good thinking

I do have an identical black one

hmmm that might be a good idea then the red shoes are left to make the impact and i still get to have a waist!

Think I will try that. The dress I feel is erring on maybe being a bit too unfunky for me.

I feel like a laydeeeeeeeeee in it

oh yes, definitely black belt - I think it will make you look slimmer than if you wore a red one

pecka · 23/06/2006 20:06

yes, your right

I cant believe I didnt think of it earlier

I have just gone and wrapped black belt around hanging dress and it looks better even on the hanger

ahhhhh can now relax

Try it on with the black belt then and see if it's comfortable when you're sitting down.
