Quick fix for bumpy spotty skin?

Since my dc was born last year I've suffered with very bumpy spot-prone skin, particularly on my forehead, hair line, across my cheeks and temples. It usually just looks very bumpy (think dozens/hundreds) and occasionally breaks out into whiteheads, which I can't leave alone and then have marks.

I have a big multi-day work event coming up in October and I'd like to look and feel less like a spotty teenager (particularly since I have braces on this year too). I use Origins checks and balances face wash which is fab and until recently used the Balanced diet moisturiser. I am veggie, drink lots of water, don't have hormonal contraception (which used to affect my skin massively). Is there a treatment I can do at home which will get rid of the bumps quickly or in one go? I'm sick of looking such a mess!

I have mild eczema so usually buy for sensitive skin and generally go for natural/herbal products where I can.

I don't know about treatments but since I stopped using all conventional "beauty" products on my face my skin has improved massively. I used to have terrible blackheads, whiteheads, spots, scaly patches, scarring, the lot. I am in my 40s.

Now I use olive oil to clean at night, honey or just water in the morning, and rosehip oil as a moisturiser. I only wear mineral make up. My skin is soooo much better.

With your event coming up I would say swap to mineral make up to cover your skin a little, and this will improve it as well if you are currently using more conventional foundation. Then try the oil cleansing - your skin may react for a week or two to this, but then will improve in leaps and bounds.

Good luck!

I also have the bumpy skin thing. I bought the Superdrug Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleanser after reading rave reviews on here and it's been AMAZING! After the first use my skin was miraculously smoother and less bumpy. My dds thought I was wearing foundation when I was completely au naturel. Worth a go maybe as it's cheap too.

Dermalfannel

Use it gently at first, it's amazing.

Yup, dermaflannel is the answer - could have saved myself YEARS of bad skin if I had found this earlier!

yourcruisedirector · 20/09/2013 13:22

Thank you everyone! I don't wear much make up - concealer, a touch of loose powder and a bronzer, but it's tempting to slap on more when looking patchy!

I think I'll try dermaflannel or the super drug thing and if that doesn't give results I will try the oil cleansing - I've heard about it before and ideally I'd like to go natural.

Thanks!

And I've just ordered a dermaflannel to add to my repertoire, thanks to this thread!

yourcruisedirector · 20/09/2013 19:12

So is a dermaflannel really just like a normal microfibres cloth? I have three new ones in a pack in the cupboard!

Bravura London also does a 15% glycolic night treatment cream which is fantastic for this problem IME - it's just under £14 and lasts for many months because you only need a tiny bit. DH always notices when I've been using it, which is proof enough for me Grin.

yourcruisedirector · 20/09/2013 19:28

I'll take a look at that too!

Are you using an exfoliator? I found that using a hot flannel to open pores then an exfoliator really helped when I had the same problem. Only needed twice a week. I also started using coconut oil at night as a moisturiser.

yourcruisedirector · 20/09/2013 22:03

Is it this one ?

foolssilver, no, I use a cleanser and toner sometimes, but often just the Origins face wash - I don't wear make up every day. I used to use the no 7 exfoliating face scrub but sometimes it would make my face a little red. I'm quite sensitive to products.

Thanks so much for the recommendations for a dermaflannel/ microfibre cloth. I've been using a new cloth I had in the cupboard and it's been amazing, even over just three days. I think it's going to work for me!
