Quality, or...?

I'm torn- I'm looking for the perfect cardigan for autumn winter, hopefully quite a petite fit, in navy or some other colour that goes with most things. Ideally I would like it in some sort of textured knit rather than just plain.

I've seen one that is very cheap, so I could buy a few other things for autumn winter too, and one that is very expensive and would definitely be my only fashion purchase for the month. The cheap one is fine and would do the job, the expensive one is beautiful and hopefully would be of excellent quality.

Is there an obvious answer here please?

How long do you want to wear it? One winter =cheap
Few winters=expensive imo

Link and price / brand / material/ washing and care instructions . We need to judge all information to consider Wink

(though IMO , I'd go for the more ££ one and stroke it when I opened the wardrobe door)

LaurieFairyCake · 18/09/2013 21:00

What you're describing sounds like a classic bit of kit - a navy cardie isn't going to date really

I'd buy the expensive one - I'm guessing its the White Company one

This is the cheap one, I can't seem to link the expensive one, but it is cashmere.

I'm leaning towards the expensive one, as maybe if I actually buy it I might stop looking, whereas if I buy the cheaper one I suppose I might end up buying a few

cashmere

I'd go for the cashmere one personally.
If you look after it , and it's a classic, you'll have it for many winters.

bunnymother · 18/09/2013 22:35

I was ready to criticise the DP one. Then I clicked the link - its lovely! But cotton can be heavy and its not warm, not really. I think you should see if a discount code will get you both, but if not, I would get cashmere. The extra warmth will be so valuable to you on those days where your knees hurt as its so cold.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 18/09/2013 23:04

To be honest, usually I'm not a DP fan at all but I liked it much more than some of their other stuff.

Here is the expensive one;

My vote is the cashmere. Cotton cardi's tend to lose shape and get twisted seams etc.

dexter73 · 19/09/2013 06:47

If you get the one from Pure, use the code DHC116 to get 25% off and free delivery. I would get the cashmere one as you will wear it for years.

mewkins · 19/09/2013 07:25

I find cashmere too warm, not sure why as am usually freezing! So it's ok for winter but not until it's properly cold. I have plain cotton cardigans in bright colours from places like new look that I wear on a weekly basis and have washed well. Cashmere is also a bit of a pain to wash.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/09/2013 07:50

Same as Mewkins - I'd find cashmere too hot and handwashing/drying is a pain. But that's me, you might be fine with it.

Lavenderhoney · 19/09/2013 07:55

I bought a the pink cardigan and camisole twinset from here, and I quite like the other cardigans. Mine is still lovely after 2 years:)

I wash my cashmere in the machine on a cold wool wash with a bit of Woolite. Cashmere is much warmer than cotton or merino. It is great for a cold person like me!

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 19/09/2013 12:28

Thanks all, and many thanks dexter for the code. I'm definitely leaning towards the cashmere one now especially with the discount. I keep looking at Brora which is gorgeous but more expensive again and the smallest size is an 8 which doesn't always fit me as I've got scrawny arms and a short torso.

OP posts:
dexter73 · 19/09/2013 12:42

Brora tends to come up on the large side so you might find it is too big.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 19/09/2013 14:54

Thank you, that makes it easier if I can write it off because it won't fit!

OP I have pmd you

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 19/09/2013 18:15

It won't seem to let me reply, but thank you, I will have a look.

I've more or less decided to buy the pure one now. Fingers crossed it will fit! I'm one of those people who are always cold so the extra warmth will be most welcome!
