I have no clothes Hmm

I'm sick of jeans but I grab them first thing in the morning and they practically walk to the washing basket.

I need a new start.

I'm a bit skint, a 16 currently working my way down to a 14. Fat arse.& thighs.

I'm not very fashiony but really want plain basics, with nice boots, jacket & scarves etc and someone to teach me how to layer.

I would normally shop at Boden/ white stuff but haven't been able to afford new clothes for about 3 years.

I feel a middle aged frump.

My rain mac is Boden 2001 Hmm
I do like dresses/tunics over leggings but worried they are not helping.

Go Grin

If I'm honest, I need to go eBay but need to know what I'm looking for Smile

Knee high boots & a denim skirt?

I just wear jeans tbh when I'm not at work

Half the stuff I see at the school gate I save for work

jinglejungle · 18/09/2013 20:34

I do have a denim skirt but struggle to know what to wear on my top half.

I feel like my denim skirt makes me look wide. Probably because I am wide Smile

hmm

opaque tights - M&S do a kind of budget spanx tights I recommend

Jumper dress in charcoal and black

jersey dress - something from baujken/Isabella oliver would be so versatile - their ruched jersey dress is my favourite dress to chuck on in the depths of winter

some scarves

some comfy boots- invest in these - black or dark brown

some ankle boots with a block heel to wear with above opaques

some GAPFIT leggings (they are meant for running and working out but imo they are the best trousers on the planet for comfort and sucking you in, and are thick and soft too)

a long line cardigan

a trench coat

a wool coat

some longer jersey vests - what is your colouring like? I recently bought a couple of oasis satin trim vests (can't link at mo) in some gorgeous colours for layering

a dolman sleeve (I know sounds awful) top over said vest, from American apparel- or any other looser fitting, nice coloured soft jersey tee

jinglejungle · 18/09/2013 21:43

That sounds good, thank you.

Am off to investigate jumper dresses

I have 14 scoop necked long sleeved t shirts in various colours.

All of them I think are too loose/baggy for layering under dresses, jumpers etc

cafecito · 19/09/2013 00:20

ah, maybe layer them over something like a longer vest? and chuck a scarf over?

Cherrypie32 · 19/09/2013 07:25

Why not try some jeans in different colours/styles? I personally would feel very over dressed in the playground in a dress as a SAHM. My 'uniform' almost is boyfriend or skinny jeans, a plain top and a bright scarf (I have loads of scarves, never expensive). I am a 14/16 and have just bought these m.hm.com/gb/product/14479?article=14479-A#mediaType=FASHION_FRONT for a change. I also swap between pumps (animal print or sparkly), converse, ankle boots. It doesn't blow the fashion world away but I look reasonably up to date and am comfortable. There has also been some fab parkas on here recently.

kaosak · 19/09/2013 07:31

I wear dresses over thick tights and a decent pair of boots, looks lovely and I alternate with skinnies and long jumpers so occasionally overdressed but then often under-dressed to balance things out if that makes sense?

BetsyBidwell · 19/09/2013 07:40

wtf if the obsession with capsules?

Bonsoir · 19/09/2013 07:42

Denim skirts are not flattering unless you have tiny hips.

You need to embrace your curves with some coloured skinny jeans and a fitted top. Can you go to Zara? Lots of coloured skinny jeans there. And look for some fitted sweaters/cardigans that coordinate.

Ememem84 · 19/09/2013 07:43

Skinny jeans in lovely colours. Oasis have a pair of gorgeous green ones. Knee high or calf boots. Converse. Ballet pumps. Lovely jumpers -next have some good ones. Plain Tshirts. Lovely cardigans (next again).

Sockywockydoodah · 19/09/2013 07:47

Marking place for tips.

jinglejungle · 19/09/2013 07:48

By capsule - I mean how can own the minimum number of clothes and not look the same every day.

I like dresses & tights look.

I think I need to invest in decent jacket & some ankle boots to liven things up a bit.

I have a parka for the cold cold winter but my autumn coats consist of
Lovely but very smart Mac
13 year old anorak
Navy blazer
Tweed blazer
Denim jacket

It sounds a lot but they are all at least 5 years old and don't seem to go with any of my clothes.

I ventured onto the bootleg thread but then ran away in terror.

I have one pair of skinnies which I like so maybe coloured is the way to go.

Will make me feel a bit better.

I need high waisted to hold my stomach in Smile

I bought some surprisingly flattering twill skinnies in John Lewis - I'm a 14/16 with big hips so skinnies don't normally work on me but these look great with boots. I got teal but they also do black, khaki and a light burgundy - am going to buy more. They're in the JL weekend range. Make me feel like I'm not wearing jeans when in fact they essentially are!

A smart jacket, boots and scarf makes a huge difference to how I feel on the school run even if I am really just wearing jeans and a top!

jinglejungle · 19/09/2013 08:21

Ooh they look great minty.

Will go have a look. I never think of looking at JL ownbrand clothes.

i like the look of the Gap real straight cords which are on offer at the moment - comfy and versatile

festered · 19/09/2013 11:08

I have a loose black catsuit, in a lycra based material but loose. Throw it on, takes 30 seconds, put cardigan or jumper and/or jacket/coat over top. Boots-voila (I'm very lazy)!

teta · 19/09/2013 12:07

I managed to get from a 16 to a size 14 last year.I bought items that were stretchy and would look OK once smaller.M&S jeggings-the pull on ones give a smoother line(alternatively the 5pocket ones are also good) in indigo/black.Very long fitted vest on top with a scoop necked t shirt and scarf.boyfriend cardis are also good.Hush Henley dresses are flattering on or TK Maxx have lots of knitted dresses online now.TK Maxx is also brilliant for coats and scarves.I found it difficult to order online but was best trying on in store tbw.

jinglejungle · 19/09/2013 16:49

I like this in red m-uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.6/4330490850with leggings & knee boots.

But what jacket, apart from my parka? I think I need a new raincoat.
