Has anyone bought a Zara or Mango down filled coat?

I'm in town shopping for one and can't decide between the two. Does anyone have any experience with either? The Mango one is comfier and probably more flattering but the belt is a bit gold and bling.

Have u read the reviews online If I remember the reviews on zara were that the seems came apart on the sleeves. They are not long enough for me. I got the Trespass one with fur trim as it comes to just above my knee and I'm now ready for the snow were meant to have next month Grin

onlysettleforbutterflies · 18/09/2013 12:57

I bought one from zara last year and love it, so warm. The odd feather appears but seams etc all seem tight.

mignonette · 18/09/2013 13:01

I'm very wary of down coats because of the appalling cruelty of the live plucking of goose/duck down and the impossibility of ascertaining whether the supply chain is cruelty free. They suffer terribly.

SoYo · 18/09/2013 13:03

Thanks for that. I'm on my mobile and can't find reviews but looks like ill have to bling it up in mango!

I've got a zara one and it's unbelievably warm and lovely. Just to confuse you haha! No probs with the seams for me and I think it's really flattering despite being so padded.

Rules · 18/09/2013 13:07

We'll then as other ladies have recommended zara I would go with that one Grin

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 18/09/2013 13:08

I have a mango one from last winter and I love it. The feathers sometimes make their way out however.

MissDD1971 · 18/09/2013 13:33

friend of mine has a Zara one from last year. she loves it

mogontheblock · 18/09/2013 13:37

I have a zara one that's been going strong for three years now, lovely quality, very stylish & I absolutely love it :-)

NomDeOrdinateur · 18/09/2013 13:40

Mignonette - that's awful Sad. May I ask what you do about pillows and duvets - is the supply chain issue the same with those as well? (Genuine question - I keep pet birds, and the thought of what you describe brings actual tears to my eyes.)

BreakingBadger · 18/09/2013 13:41

I have a Zara one, v stylish, but I got caught in a downpour and can report that they are definitely not anything approaching waterproof.

Saminthemiddle · 18/09/2013 13:43

I bought the Zara one this year and love it, probably too early for the seams but my old Zara coats have all been good quality tbh.

mignonette · 18/09/2013 13:47

Nom

Yes the supply chain for pillows and duvets is the same and I was so upset at what I read that I now buy synthetic. I know we cannot save the world and we all have to make decisions all the time about what we can and cannot do but until manufacturers clean up their act, voting w/ ones wallet is the most effective strategy.

These birds are live plucked multiple times during their life cycle. It is truly truly dreadful and I'd be surprised if anybody bought these products after seeing it done (even the photos are bad enough).

PicnicPie · 18/09/2013 13:52

I have a Zara one from 3 years ago, when it had a hood. I love it and will get it out this winter. My sister has the one youve linked to, from last year. Her only criticism is the lack of hood, which is the same for the Mango one. Sorry doesn't help you decide between the two but just another opinion.

NomDeOrdinateur · 18/09/2013 13:57

Oh bloody hell Mignonette - I completely agree with you, thank you so much for the information. I have a couple of feather pillows already but I will never buy anything with down in it again - I haven't even had my parrot sexed because I'd need to pluck a feather from her chest for the DNA sample, and I can't bring myself to hurt her unnecessarily Sad.

mignonette · 18/09/2013 13:59

If you can bear if there are articles and films online about the corrupt and convoluted chains of supply and the difficulty of sourcing ethical down. i won't link because they are so distressing and people can look if they want.

How amazing you have a parrot. Such clever little birds. Could they use a naturally shed one?

Meglet · 18/09/2013 14:02

I bought a zara one 2 years ago. I hate it Angry. It's not waterproof in the slightest, the hood is so big and wafty it won't stay up in a breeze, the belt gets tangled and the pockets are the size of thimbles - even tissues fall out, I can't pop my keys or phone in them.

Yesterday I was googling North Face coats as I've had enough.

That's probably more hatred for a coat than you wanted Grin, but it's been a waste of money. All style over substance, and for £80 I expect it to be fairly well designed.

bunnymother · 18/09/2013 14:09

I have the £109 Zara down filled one from this year. It feels really warm but I doubt it's showerproof. My north face one is shower proof but doesn't feel as warm

NomDeOrdinateur · 18/09/2013 14:36

Mignonette - thanks, she's hilarious, very social and extremely manipulative endearing, but very destructive! She's been chewing my office chair all morning and putting her head down for a scratch every time I reach over to remove her... Sadly DNA sexing requires a "live" feather with a blood supply, so unless she lays (infertile) eggs I have to assume that she's female based on little clues like head shape and posture. She probably can't breed anyway as she was hand-reared (another sad abuse of birds in captivity which I hope to help put right when I have the £ and space for an aviary), so it would only be a matter of interest really.

I've been looking for some synthetic-filled coats online like the lovely Zara-alike I got from Asda a couple of years back, but sadly can't find any to propose as an alternative to the down-filled ones for under £150.

mignonette · 18/09/2013 16:38

Bless, she sounds great. Good for you for caring.

NomDeOrdinateur · 18/09/2013 17:10

Oooh, found one (and I promise I haven't been looking since this morning)!

In case anybody's interested: nice high-tech cruelty-free thigh-length filled coat for not-much-more-money. No offense meant to those of you who are buying down, of course - I eat more meat than I need to and often buy clothes which are disturbingly inexpensive for their quality, so I certainly can't judge Smile.

mignonette · 18/09/2013 17:47

Nom good to have that option. We do what we can and none of us are perfect Wink
