Which brand of eyeshadow for over 50s wrinkly eyelids - no shimmer or sparkle

I'd love to wear eyeshadow, but it just shows up my wrinkly eyelids and the shimmery stuff just looks daft. Guidance please, wise ones.

there is a brand called make up academy, it's stocked in superdrug and is very reasonably priced and reviews say it is good quality, they do some palettes which have a good range of matt shades, here

kingbeat23 · 17/09/2013 10:28

Ooh I've used them, they really are nice.

Urban Decay do great eye shadow that never creases, smudges and blends really well. Worth paying a bit extra for.
They have loads of neutral shades too.
You could also try an eyeshadow primer before applying and use liquid eyeliner not kohl so it doesn't migrate during the day.
just as example

Cream shadows are definitely the way to go, I think.

I recommend Boobi Brown's cream eyeshadows - lots of subtle colours, many non-sparkly.

I also love Becca Eye Tints, which are only available online from Space NK - baroque is a lovely taupe- colour.

revlon and mac do matte shades x

KosherBacon · 17/09/2013 20:52

There is a nice matte Too Faced palette. My mum uses it and it gives a really smooth creamy finish.

I have the Urban Decay Naked and Naked II pallettes. Love them. I am 55. MUA is good but doesn't quite have the staying power.

Vibbe · 17/09/2013 22:35

Mac are nice.

My mum loves YSL though.

missmartha · 17/09/2013 23:02

Another fan of Urban Decay Nudes, and I'll never see 50 again.

Gorgeous.

L'Oreal also do a good palette of neutrals. I can't remember the actual name of them, but I use them quite a lot. I got the palette in Boots.

Urban Decay Basics is six lovely soft mattes. Bobbi Brown do a good range of matte shadows.

I have lots of the Bourjois little pots. Don't buy the shimmer ones, stick to matte if that is your thing.

They are cheap and often three for two.

lilolilmanchester · 18/09/2013 05:58

would also recommend a primer (Urban Decay is good; Barbara Daly at Tesco is also good and cheap!)
I have wrinkly bits underneath my eyebrows near my nose, the thing I have found helps is after applying eyeshadow, rub a little bit of eye cream over said wrinkly bits to remove eyeshadow trapped there.
Haven't bought eyeshadow in ages - got loads of old stuff to use up, but would suggest going to various makeup counters and getting them to try stuff out on you. Clinique, Mac or Bobby Brown would be my first port of call, at the cheaper end I've got Bourjois, L'Oreal and No 7 which are fine.

valiumredhead · 18/09/2013 09:10

Urban Decay Naked 1 palette.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/09/2013 09:17

ELF do good cheap and non-sparkly cream eyeshadows

Rules · 18/09/2013 13:04

I'm in my fifties and wear a cream eyeshadow from maybelline in a little pot.

bottleofbeer · 18/09/2013 14:12

Yup you need a primer, MUA is fabulous for the price but I find it tends to gather into the creases in your eyelids (and I'm 35).

I'm a MAC addict; can't fail with it.
