It happens every time Sad

I love the skirt, tights, boots look for winter as I get fed up in jeans, but the tights problem is really off putting.

OP do you have any abdominal muscle separation? I used to have this which resulted in an intestinal hernia and found anything around my tummy such as tights or leggings would give me stomach ache. Since being fixed I don't have the problem.

Alternatively, try sizing up? Woolly tights are usually softer around the waistband eg M&S merino tights.

DancingLady · 16/09/2013 14:29

YES this happens to me. Not so much stomach ache as bloating, windy (sorry tmi) and just generally uncomfortable. And I always buy a size up - just think that the waistband digs in.

Passthecake30 · 16/09/2013 14:40

I hate tights....hate that compressed sucked in feeling that they give. I don't get a stomach ache...just uncomfortable. I'm not huge either....but am tall and think I loose the width in stretching out the length ifykwim?

Panzee · 16/09/2013 14:43

I do but I have separated abdominal muscles too. I can't wear my old jeans.

rattlemehearties · 16/09/2013 14:44

Sometimes. Have you tried hold-ups instead?

lifesgreatquestions · 16/09/2013 16:27

OP, you know when you read a thread title and it sings to you? Ha! I really suffer from this. I ditto the idea of buying a bigger size. I live in dresses, skirts and tights in winter and have already had one day of suffering as I bought the wrong size. For me I think it somehow induced bloating rather than the size being incorrect, but a size up helps with that.

DontmindifIdo · 16/09/2013 16:35

bigger size is fine with boots, but with shoes, you'll end up with wrinkly ankles.

The easist solution to that problem is to get the right size for your legs and then to cut the waist band, ideally on each hip so if it's a jersey material dress, there won't be an odd visible line over your tummy. If you find then slipping down then put a second pair of knickers over your tights to hold in place (this double pants arrangement has the added advantage of giving you a warmer bum in cold weather)

I was wondering something similar. I wore Spanx yesterday and when I took them off, I had red welts around the waistband and tops of my legs. They were obviously too tight.

Then this morning, I had a terrible pain in my lower abdomen and when I went to the loo, I lost some blood. Do you think the Spanx may have done this?

mrsrhodgilbert · 16/09/2013 16:40

I second snipping the waistband, I don't know why they are made so tight.

CressidaMontgomery · 16/09/2013 16:42

Ilovemakeup - no. Losing blood won't be tights wearing related. See a doctor

TheOriginalNutcracker · 16/09/2013 17:30

Oh thank the lord [girn] i thoght it was just me.

I have had 3 dc, but don't know if i have seperated stomach muscles. It's possible though as i don't exercise at all lol.

I will try buying bigger tights and see if that helps. Trouble is i am only 5'2 and the large ones tend to be really long then too.

I get this too- have done for a long time, so I tend to fold over the waistband so it sits on my hips- that way, the tights still stay up as the main elastic is still there, but it doesn't dig in to my stomach :)

louloubellamozzarella · 17/09/2013 10:42

Maybe try maternity tights (no one will know!) - they have a nice high waist so won't but into your stomach and have more give in the tummy area. ASOS and H&M do fab opaque ones and I think M&S do sheer ones too.

louloubellamozzarella · 17/09/2013 10:43

*dig into your stomach

VenusDeWillendorf · 17/09/2013 12:48

I second the maternity tights too.
Lovely selection in mother are at the mo too.

Blood doesn't sound good though. Time to see your GP ilovemakeup.

DancingLady · 17/09/2013 16:25

How can you tell if your stomach muscles have separated? Very curious.

Maternity tights - my god you're right!

Mumsnut · 17/09/2013 16:50

In awe of maternity tights suggestion!! Will have to buy online though - can't risk being seen ...

louloubellamozzarella · 23/09/2013 20:54

They are sooo comfy - think I'm going to stick with them when this baby is out - there's no going back now Grin

spanishring · 23/09/2013 21:00

I get this too. In fact with anything tight around my waist band. It makes me so uncomfortable. Then on Saturday I had a revelation. I was wearing Calvin Klein tights from
TK maxx in the biggest size. And they were so comfy and I didn't get any bloating or pain.
I had however had a lot to drink so may have been senseless and Maternitytights is a very good idea!

I Have to say also though that M&s tights big or small always give me this tummy ache and bloating

Meglet · 23/09/2013 21:14

I have to fold over the top of leggings so they sit at hip level instead of digging into my stomach. I even have 7yr old maternity track pants I wear around the house Blush. Can't bear things around my waist as it sets off my IBS.

Interesting to hear about the separated stomach muscle theory, I have a small bulge (am thin and otherwise fit) but the doctor I see for my IBS said it was fine.
